Sores in my mouth!?!

Question: Lately I have been getting these sores in my mouth...like canckers (sp?) i think they are called? It occured to me that it's probably because I have mainly been eating a ton of veggies and fruit...the high acid can do that can't it??

I do eat other stuff too obviously...but mostly rely on these acidic things. my question is, does your body eventually get used to this? vegans must eat a ton of veggies and know what i am talking about? or - is there anything i can do to get rid of them, salt water maybe?? Thanks!

I am a canker sore sufferer. If you haven't been getting them then it's not genetic, but it can DEFINITELY be caused by too much acid in your system. I can't drink ANY orange juice at all or I get a mouthful you can get them in your throat too, it's awful. Personally my body has never been able to get used to the acid, but I am prone to getting canker sores (and don't worry it's not oral herpes, cold sores are completely different from canker sores)

As for the pain relief you can use ibuprofen, and ambesol or orajel, my favorite is kanka it burns to put on but it works well. I would avoid anything acidic or rough as that can irritate them. swishing with salt water is supposed to help them heal faster, you can also use hydrogen peroxide, put it on with a q-tip. I also take L-Lysine...I have found that it helps them heal faster, and helps prevent many of them.

You can still eat lots of fruits and veggies, just eat fewer citrusy fruits, and not too many tomatoes.

It has nothing to do with acid and everything to do with a lack of B-12. Get yourself some Nutritional Yeast and put it on everything you use. Or learn to love Marmite or Vegemite and have that daily on toast.

Hormones and stress levels can also trigger them. But since you're veggie, B-12 is the most likely candidate for cause.

Oral herpes, maybe??

IHAVE HAD CANKER sores since i was a small child
i believe it is the acid...
i do not eat fresh tomatoes
or pineapple
and walnuts give me a problem also.
the best thing to do, is trial and error for yourself.
when u get one, try to think of what you just ate, and delete that from your meals.
if i get even one seed from the tomatoe, i will get one or two in my mouth. they hurt !!
good luck............

Your mouth sores aren't likely related to your diet. What you eat might irritate a mouth sore and prevent effective wound healing, but the food itself is an unlikely cause.

It is possible they have been caused by a bacteria, a virus (like Herpes, for example) or by a medication you're using (like a corticosteroid inhaler, for example).

See your doctor.

There is an oral rinse you can buy. If you have a Wall Mart or pharmacy by you, you'll find it by the mouth wash.

ok i get cold sores and canker sores all the timethe is Abreva and something called "L-Lysine" it also help prevent cold sore (fever blister)
and for canker sores there is a thing called "canker cover" its in a box that u can get at your local drug store or other store...
its a small patch the goes over you canker sore...it soon disolves into a clear patch (like a band-aid for canker sores). while its doing all this its treating the canker sore and helping it heal...soon it is gone and no more canker sore!
try it i garrantee it works! promise!!
