Soya milk and digestion?!

Question: Hello,

I have decided at the age of 24 that i have poured too much rubbish down my throat for way too long. When i think of all the chemicals in the food i have been eating, i just cant believe i did that to my body and thought it was ok.

I want to eat things to promote a healthy digestive system. I am going to eat more fish, nuts etc.

Is it better for our health to drink soya milk than cows milk, and why.

Should i cut out dairy all together.

Thanks.

I stopped drinking cows milk many years ago. There are too many problems with hormones and antibiotics in the milk, not to mention the problems keeping it from spoiling, etc. etc.
If you do want to keep drinking milk, I highly recommend finding an organic brand that you can trust. That goes for ice cream, cheese, and all other dairy products.

In reality, it is extremely difficult to avoid all dairy products. Ever go out for pizza with friends? How about chocolate? Cream in the coffee? But, I do the best I can, and I think I do pretty well.

I have found that soy milk is a great substitute. Again, only buy a product that is made with organic soy. The pesticides and other chemicals found in conventional soy beans is a long list of bad stuff.

It may take a while (a week or two at most) for your body to get used to soy, depending on how much you drink. Start slow at first, with a cup a day, then increase the amount.

Soy products are in so many foods that your body is probably used to it anyway.

Good luck, and congratulations for making a wise decision.

I find it difficult to say that one thing is better than another but I do not drink milk because it is from cows. I am not a cow. Humans are the only animal that consume milk outside of infancy and another species milk. Factory farming has made food toxic for our bodies and should be avoided. To many drugs and other chemicals.
If you choose to stop drinking milk you should also try rice, almond, oat and hemp milk. If you drink soy milk and it's hard on your tummy, try one that has kombu(sea vegetable) it will help it digest better.

I recently (few weeks) started drinking soy milk instead of cows milk and have found it beneficial to my digestive system. The more I drink it the more I like the flavour and there are many brands and they all taste slightly different so it may take awhile to find one you like. I find soy is heaps better in smoothies too. I've noticed a lot of people that get bloated from cows milk don't get bloated at all from soy. I've heard its better for skin too, but I've yet to cut out cheese so haven't noticed a difference.

Also soy icecream is really good.

Hi!

I strongly encourage you (and anyone else contemplating it) to remove any and all dairy from their diets. It's completely unnatural for adult mammals to drink breastmilk (humans are the only species that drink breast milk past infancy), and it's inappropriate for humans to drink the breast milk of another species (humans are the only species that drink the breastmilk of another species).[1]

Dairy consumption is linked with type 2 diabetes, heart disease, obesity, osteoperosis, acne, allergies, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, and increased mucous production.[1]

Alternatives to cow milk such as soy, rice, almond, and hemp milks will give you the same nutrients as cow milk, and they're cholesterol free and low in saturated fat.

Best of luck!

The worst thing about milk (besides the cruelty involved in factory farming cows) is lactose intolerance.

Almost 3000-4500 millions of people worldwide are affected. It is the most common (and most unrecognized) digestive problem found so far.

Most people are lactose intolerant and do not even know it. They are more or less sick most of the time and think this is how life should be. There are more lactose intolerant people, than those who can digest milk properly.

We are so used to the symptoms of lactose intolerance, that we see them as "normal digestion signs". For example, feeling "really full and heavy" after a meal is not normal, except you ate a mountain of food within shortest time, other way you ate something you cannot digest properly.

Soy milk is not bad, the mildest milk (concerning digestion) is so far rice milk (it is the same mild as rice). It is even ok for people with gluten intolerance and soy allergy.

May i suggest you try rice milk ?

Its much lighter to drink and digest and has a crisper taste ( soya milk is too creamy for some people )

I slowly switched from lacto-ovo vegetarian to vegan over the course of about two years. By the end of those two years I was eating very little dairy, maybe once or twice a week. But I can tell you that making the switch and cutting it out completely had a much bigger effect than I expected. My digestion improved (I didn't even think I had bad digestion before, but I guess you don't know better till you try it), and my skin cleared up within a couple weeks (I had acne). Plus I just feel lots better in general.

You might want to reconsider fish. With all the garbage being dumped into our waters there's no telling what kind of crap is bioaccumulating in your food, mercury for one. Not to mention that commercial fishing is destroying the worlds oceans and pushing many species towards extinction. And personally, I say fish are friends, not food :)

I'd cut out the cows' milk. You're a human being, not a baby calf, so why are you drinking the stuff? I'd say it's better to drink soy milk than cows' milk, although I never drink it. I usually use my soy milk in cooking, baking, and poured over cereal.

Like someone else said, though, buy organic soy milk to reduce the rubbish you pour down your throat.

There are soy ice creams (and a rice ice cream), soy sour cream, soy cream cheese, soy cheeses (although most have casein, a milk protein, so do read labels), and other great analogues.
