Some Tips:

Talk to your folks before you do it.

Buy or borrow some good veggie cook books. Learn to cook and improvise with what you've got.

Make sure you eat a variety of fruit, veg, nuts, beans, legumes and get all your essential nutrients. If you're concerned see a nutritionist.

Stay in contact with other veggers n vegans for moral support.

Subscribe to news letters to stay up to date.

Almost ALL restaurants have vegetarian options. I call them and ask them to email or fax me the menu. They are usually very helpful. I also have a little snack before going out, so I'm not starving.

Being veg *can* make you loose weight, but not necessarily. Its about calories input vs calorie output.

Good luck. =0)

well my friend is a vegetarian and she seems tn not have trouble with it even though her whole family eats meat.
just have your food not contain the meat and it'll be good.
have your mom have a certain plate for you, meat-free.

but yeah it does help you lose weight but some vitamins you need from meat is in some pill things that vegetarians have to take like every month so yeah just make sure to get your vitamins in.

dude work out it's even better that way.
you'll be able to do it
=]

just eliminate one meat at a time from your diet

Well, just go vegetarian, simple as that. I'm a vegetarian since i was 6,and its great.I couldnt eat meat for anything in the world and im really healthy too.

Well, have a talk with ur parents and let them see that is healthy to be a vegetarian. And beg them not to stick meat in ur food, like that u're sure u're not eating meat.
Or just cook ur own food,as i do. Its safer.
At the restaurants, they have plenty and plenty of vegetarian menus. From salads to special dishes. At the supermarket, just read the ingredients and get sure that it doesnt contain any meat derivated products or fats.

good luck.
i think its the best thing you could do.

I had the exact same problem. My parents forced me to eat meat and i was disgusted! Talk to your parents about foods you can eat while being a vegetarian. I was a vegetarian for almost 3 months! But those cheeseburgers were calling me like crazy. But don't give up home.

The very first time i became vegetarian it only lasted for a couple of days because my family was picking on me and everything. just remember just because your parents eat meat doesn't mean you have too! My dad worked in a piggery and he used to bring ham home all the time, but after a while of not eating meat you get used to it and you eventually think OMG! how did i ever eat meat? If your parents eating meat is distracting you and making you eat meat maybe you could ask your parents not to eat meat for a while just till you can get used to it. You can go to many restaurants, some restaurants may not have much of a variety of vegetarian meals but most of the time there will be at least a salad. hope this helped.

I can understand how your family would effect your diet,so save up your money-and start shopping for yourself.Theres plenty of food you can purchase without meat and/or animal products.
Also most restaraunts WILL have atleast one vegan item on the list,it could be pizza or salad,or even tacos without the meat.Once you go to a restraunt, you will notice alot more items without meat.
If you need motivation, sign up for PETA and other vegan magazines because you'll surely be disturbed enough and will never want to eat meat again.lol
And being vegatarian CAN help you lose weight, but not in every case.It really just depends, make sure you dont go to snack foods to avoid meat cravings.Eat fruit, and vegatables as snacks.
Make sure you get all the protien you need though!
Good Luck and Congrats =)

I've been a vegetarian since October, and am only thirteen (soon to be fourteen)
Anyways, you have to start confident and you have to RESEARCH a lot
When I first started, I was unaware of how complicated it was to go veg
You don't just eat salads, as many people think
If you're not much of a cook, Amy's brand food is really good
I like it because I'm so strict with my diet
while researching, look up stuff like this (you'll learn a lot): rennet, glycerin, natural flavors, hidden ingredients-things that appear to be fine aren't always
about the meat-eaters in your family, all you can hope for is encouragement
if they don't encourage you, don't let them take you down, just use it as more strength in your pledge to not devour helpless creatures :)
also, use chooseveg.com
the videos help and i think that's got some recipes, though I haven't checked them out

losing weight? I guess it depends on your eating habits now
It's made some difference for me by becoming veg, but I just have bad genetics and my eating habits aren't so hot so I don't really know

eat fruits, vegetables-nuts, seeds, and tofu i guess for protein, and blah, blah, blah
(you know)

hope this helps!

Just change your food habits and if you are around meat get away you might be tempted to eat some but just think of the poor cows, pigs , and whatever else people are killing and walk away.

i live in a house of meat-earters too.
When i first told my parents i wasnt eating meat anymore, my dad thought i was joking and my mom said that i wasnt.
she was wrong.
I told them straight up that they would have to deal with the fact that i wasnt eating meat anymore.
They werent happy but that was the only way i coudlve done it.
If they stick meat on a plate in front of you, eat the meatless sidedishes, and stand your ground if you have too. Just remember how much you love the animals.
Hopefully you wont have to resort to measures that drastic though. It wasnt a pretty experience.

As for what your eating, ask whombever that cooks at your house to make something quick and easy on the side, or volenteer to cook your own food. Imitation products like veggieburgers are yummy and they may be easier on your family's transition.
There's morningstar, boca, amy's kitchen. They all make good imitation products.

You can also look at this site for recipies, they're motsly vegan, but you can use actual milk or cheese (as long as it doesnt have calf rennet) for imitation milk or sheese or that sort of thing.

Hope this helps and good luck!!!! =)
