What do you think about vegan diets?!

Question: Are they really that much better? How do you get over the desire for a good meal? If you have a recipe please share. Thanks

I'm a very happy well-fed vegan.

The truth of the matter is that it's not hard to be vegan. When you know what you're doing and you're not afraid to cook for yourself, it's really very easy.

You don't have to "get over the desire for a good meal" to be vegan. Every meal I make is an AWESOME meal. I'm a better cook than I ever was when I was omni. (I'm a better cook than anyone I know, for that matter.) Vegan food is normal food, it's easy to prepare, and it's freaking delicious.

I really hate the term "dietary restrictions" in regards to veganism. Veganism is anything but restrictive. I CAN eat anything I want, I simply CHOOSE not to eat foods that exploit animals. And the longer I'm vegan, the more variety I have in my diet - I've discovered delicious grains and vegetables that, before being vegan, I didn't know existed.

Not to mention that a vegan diets offers a myriad of health benefits over the typical omniverous North American diet.

I was a vegan for 2 years but then switched to being a vegetarian. Honestly.. It wasn't that hard. And I lost alot of weight... Because I was eating less. I ended up about 15 pounds underweight.

I am fine with vegan diets philosophically, but with a family, career and hectic schedule, it is practically impossible - let alone the abject deprivation.

I know it must be more difficult to be a vegan. At least vegetarians can still have stuff like dairy, vegans can't eat anything that had anything to do with any animal. But I wouldn't say they're better, just different.

I have been dealing with this same issue lately. I love a good steak diner, but at the same time I absolutely hate what must take place in order that I eat such a meal, because I love animals, and hate death. I don't have the time to try to figure out how to eat in a healthy way without meat, and it really bothers me. I wonder how it was that Jesus was O.K. with eating fish. I really want to be a vegetarian but I can't because I become unhealthy. Society makes it very difficult to be a vegetarian because meat is in everything. And I must admit that a vegetarian diet is really boring, so I'm quite perplexed on how to deal with this issue.

If you do it RIGHT you will be very healthy. Tons of people go vegan and just cut out the meat, dairy and eggs and either don't replace it at all or don't replace it properly, then when their diet fails they blame veganism for being a crappy diet when in fact they just don't know what they're doing. If you do it correctly you will be very healthy. For some people, vitamins with calcium, iron, etc are necessary when on a vegan diet because there is not a wide variety of vegan foods that will give you everything you need.

Being a healthy vegan gives you more energy, healthier skin and hair and makes it easier to maintain a healthy weight. You cut out a lot of those fatty foods full of hormones and all that yucky stuff you don't need. Since I went vegan I can actually JOG now without looking like a cow on the verge of a heartattack! It also makes you smell way better (say goodbye to BO hehehe).

Their pancakes are suuuuper awesome.

Haha. I tried to be one for a while to lose weight, but after two days of seeing the delicious school burgers, I couldn't take it anymore! Really, I don't think you get enough nutrients, and it drives you INSANE every time you see meat, unless you do it because you really just don't like meat.

It's better in the sense that you usually take in less fat, calories, sodium, and cholesterol. Finding foods that have enough protein will be tough though.

it seems hard. I can definitely avoid eating meat for some time, since I'm not really into meat. But I could not go on without dairy. I love yogurt and cheese too much to give them up >.<

Fortunately we're not in the stone age anymore --> somehow I don't think they had internet forums back then, so that's kind of a useless fact here...
Obviously you haven't had much experience with a vegan diet - as a meat eater you are way more restricted in comparison to a vegan diet. You learn more things about health and food in general - and try foods you never would have tried before.
I'm 17 and have been a vegan for two years soon - my own meals aren't that good, but that's because I have a tendency to over or under-cook...
Vegans are probably the best eaters in the world (my opinion)

i wood die with out meat lol

My dad used to be a vegan, but its hard and kinda rude sometimes, Like if someoe offers you meet you say sorry im vegan. But its safer from diseases and stuff but vegan is very strict id i had a choice i would be a veggitarian then ur free to eat fish and eggs but vegan nothin can u eat that comes from and animal

We are humans! In the Stone Age, all we could do was hunt, we were cannibals....then the Ice Age came and killed the food, so we had to resolve to being omnivores! we are naturally meat-eaters!

Vegan means you can't eat dairy-products

DAIRY IS A PART OF THE FOOD PYRAMID

I'm a meat eater, but my sister is vegetarian. She tried really hard to go vegan and just couldn't do it after about 4 months. She really tried, but nothing seemed to really feel her up and she just didn't get enough protein, etc. to sustain her athletic lifestyle. But good luck to you if you go that route. I enjoy meat too much to loose it in my diet.
