Why is it ok to kill a cow to eat if you own it but not a dog or a cat?!

It is just another hypocrisy of society. Maybe one day no one will eat meat, seeing as it is unnecessary. Many people think that killing cows is no better than any other animal. In India, it is illegal to kill a cow or harm one in anyway.
well, its not that its not ok. its just that in the united states, we've grown accustomed to having them as pets
look at india, they dont kill cows there, cows are holy to them! and in other countries, they eat cats and dogs all the time.
you can in the phillipines. I think just beacuse it has been that way fro hundreds of years and people have dogs and cats as pets so it would be morally wrong. Besides cows have more meat than a cat ;)
dogs and cats are pets. cows and chicken are targeted farm animals, and are sent to cruel slaughter houses and get killed. DON'T EAT MEAT.
we have been rasied not to eat dog or cat but u can actually eat dog. or u can eat cat brains but u know what....I much rather have cow!
I am not sure of whether it's legal to eat dog or cat, but it's not sociably acceptable. But it is acceptable to eat cows.Think about it...most people who have cows don't make them a part of the family. They don't have them do tricks for scraps from the table. That's what makes it easier and more acceptable to eat the cow.
Dogs and cats are what is referred to as "Domestic animals" meaning they are meant in this country as house pets, and cannot be killed for food. Cows, Chickens, etc, are farm animals, and therefore "okay" to slaughter, from a legal stand-point. There are places to look this up, which will clarify which animals are domestic and which are not, but i do not know where best to check.
you must think of it this way cows evolved from our wild animals that we hunt..dogs evolved from the wollf withch use to help us hum same fro the cat...so ppl stll go buy why kill what helps us if you know what i mean
Dogs and cats have evolved to be known as animals who are there for love, not for killing or eating. If you want to go eating your own pet, I recommend a therapist.
It is often not "okay" to kill animals that you keep as companions. Even people who eat meat do not kill pet pigs,chickens, rabbits, turtles,chickens etc even though those animals are normally raised for food.
Many cultures also do not differentiate between dogs and other animals the way Western societies do. In fact, the West's affinity with their pet animals especially dogs and cats are a mystery to them as much as their practices regarding animals is a mystery (an often an object of disgust) to the west. But do you know that Native Americans at one time were voracious dog eaters? So are some Inuit tribes in Alaska. But the dominantly western values raised US government prohibited such practices.
You can eat anything you want. For some reason we've decided as a culture it's not nice to eat your cats and dogs. Other cultures may not feel this way. I applaud them more than I do people who are picky about what is okay to kill and eat and what's not.

Here in the Philippines we chew on a dog now and then. But I think it best not to participate in eating any sort of animal flesh at all. Like who wants to eat a corps.
It's not okay. People see them differently so they don't mind killing a cow but would be horrified if someone ate their pet. I am vegetarian because I don't think it's okay to eat any animal, whether it's my pet or cow or a pig.
Outside of tradition and law, I see no difference.

You can eat them no problem. It's just that people generally seperate animals into food / pet.
Goats are kinda both lol.
But yes, all animals are edible.
because cows are raised to be food and they taste good.
dogs are raised to be pets, i also have a feeling that they would be tough and stringy. (I have never/would never eat one)
