Vegetarians and Vegans? If meat was all there was left to eat would you starve to death?!

Question: I mean think for a second if meat was the only kind of food left on the planet, I am just asking this for arguments sake not saying this could ever happen. Just imagine it did though, if you are vegetarians or vegans would you go against your beliefs and eat it to survive or would you starve yourself to death?

Vegans are self absorbed and self indulged morons who think they stand for the better good.

Sad thing is, a vegan came and got all their friends to give me thumbs down because I had 7 ups with no downs earlier. So, I guess my self indulgence thing really proved you guys RIGHT.

To Janey B, come debate with me anyday. I'll prove that vegans are just hippie/emos that want to make a statement. They want something to stand for and guess what, you guys don't have much to cling to so I get it, cling to being a vegan.

They are starving to death anyway.

That question is just silly. What is a cow going to eat in order for you to kill the cow and have a nice steak? What is deer going to eat if there are no berries for the deer to eat?

Silly rabbit...

They would eat it, no matter what they say. They would not be in their right mind anymore, and would eat it out of survival instincts.

Eat to survive or you could eat chicken eggs if chickens were there anyways i would eat meat to survie.

v must eat to survive no matter what it's.

I'd eat. I love animals (I'm a vegetarian), but if it's me or them, I'm certainly not going down. Same if an animal attacked me. Or if I saw a deer in the road that I could swerve to avoid and in the process kill myself, or I could hit dead on and save my own life, I'd hit it, of course. I know these aren't really the same situations, but you get what I mean. (Plus, if there is only meat left on the planet, what do the cows and chickens eat? They'll die anyway...)

Pass the steak sauce. I would eat the meat in moderation.

I'd eat meat. I'm vegetarian but I think meat tastes great. I do it because of the horrendous conditions we raise, transport, and slaughter our animals for commercial purposes. I accept creatures eating other creatures as a natural way of life though. So in theory, if I could somehow raise the animals on my own or insure that they're being treated humanely I'd be more willing to eat meat. But first I'd resort to squeezing the udder dry or desperately trying to shake out some eggs! :)

Eat it. I'm no martyr.

yes they would

Without the nutrients in plants then we would die eventually anyway.

No and yes.

MEAT I would eat.

MEAT I would choke on.

You see, most people would adapt to their new surroundings and eventually take onto the fact that meat was their only choice...

However, there's still the fact that, unless you become an adept Yogic master and live on air and water, you're going to starve regardless.

Meat lacks many nutrients you'll need to sustain life, and when you become sickly and exhausted because you don't have supplies of nutrients or the friendly inner environment to sustain periods of hardcore detox, nor the necessary break from digestion (which takes up an upper partial of energy from your food to perform) to begin in the first place, you die.

Furthermore, and more importantly, what happens when the meat runs out? Disease and famine. : )

I rest my case. Diversity is what's keeping you alive right now, yo. Embrace differences; do not shun them! (It's all speculation, anyway, but you catch what I'm coming with.)

I'm a vegan, and I absolutely would eat meat for survival! I can find a lot of veggie alternatives to meat in grocery stores, but I'm pretty sure I'd never find MorningStar veggie crumbles in the wild! Honestly, I think it would be a hard thing, psychologically to do at first (eat animals), but my survival mode would kick in, and I believe I would feel *compelled* to eat whatever I could get my hands on! That would probably include grubs and bugs etc.

Umm. Those cows, pigs, sheep etc, would have to have something to eat something natural. The vegans/veggies could eat what the animals eat. I think the question is asinine.

You might want to think this question over, people are right, it'd be a last meal as the animals won't be able to survive either... Or, if they're cows, we can feed them meat, and all die of mad cow disease anyway...
If I saw impending doom, I think I'd give the meat away, and at least rot without something else rotting inside of me...

I would eat meat in this scenario. I also believe that cannibalism could be justified in this hypothetical situation.

But the fact that eating meat is ethically permissible in certain hypothetical situations shouldn't be an excuse for us to engage in it when the conditions of these scenarios clearly don't apply to us.

I agree with a_n_v2 being vegan is not about being a martyr, it is about minimizing as far as you can your contribution to animal suffering and exploitation. If it means life or death, I'm sure I would eat meat. But only to survive not to gorge my self. I can't do any thing for the animal rights cause if I'm dead. I suspect there are lots of idealists out there who say they wouldn’t eat it, but my guess is if they were in this scenario they probably would. It’s human nature…. survival instincts.

Karen's right too, still no excuse to do it in real life it's only hypothetical.

If you were on the planet of Xarthon and the Xarthonians said that they would eat you if you did not kill and make love to the bodies of everyone in your family, would you do it, or would you use pixie dust to escape back to Earth?

Anyone who says that vegans are stupid are complete tools. We are helping to save a few innocent animals lives. Also the environment. Do you know how much water and energy it takes to get just 1 kilo of meat? I doubt it. Funny how you dont see fat, sick vegans :) :)

I am a vegetarian/ vegan. Honestly I don't eat meat because I am all for animal rights, I don't eat flesh cuz i don't like it. But yes i would have to eat an animal if thats all there was left. Would you eat a human if there was not plants or animals to eat?

nope. And to Rythme meat is not the only source of protein. There are many vegetables, fruits, grains etc to mix and match in recipes.

I wouldn't eat the meat, because it would go away pretty quickly and we would all starve to death. The animals we eat cannot live without vegetables. I would take a gun to my head and say good riddens to this world.

No I would rather starve to death than eat the corps of an animal.

Hypothetic questions based on extremes do not mean or prove anything. Its impossbile to say what one might do in such a situation.

For example, if you were offered $100 to sleep with George Bush would you ?

No, how about $1M, or $100M or $1B...just for 10 minutes work ???

Most people would claim "no" but when faced with a lorry full of money and the guarantee of living a complete life of luxury for you and everyone you know...the morals get blurred.

If you every get to the point of saying yes, does that make you a prostitute ??

See, extremes prove nothing.

Personally, i believe i would start to death. but there is little point in discussing it because you have no idea how i feel about my morals,

"crazy_eye_killah" offers to debate but doesn't have email enabled. Now that is a real lack of conviction in thier arguement when they refuse to even discuss it !!

If we ever did get to meet and discuss it. i'll be the "hippy" in a suit driving an Aston Martin. I don't quite know where your "hippy" arguement will go from there, but i'll happily listen

Well, thats quite a hard question you got there..
I'm vegetarian and I guess Iwould eat it . I absoloutely love meat, but im vegetarian just because i think its mean to kill animals .

Oh, and for the person who said "theyre starving to death anyway" how the heck are we starving to death.. we eat food, thats hardly starving .

It annoys me how people say 'vegans are stupid' etc. etc. Im not vegan but i respect them unlike alot of people.. vegetarians and vegans have different beliefs to other people and if u cant respect that then you die in a hole .

Interesting question .

I'd probably eat the hypothetical Soylent Green instead.

If meat was all that was left on the planet to eat, we would ALL die. We are not carnivores and cannot survive on an all-meat diet. Maybe I'd die of starvation and you'd die of multiple nutritional deficiencies or a heart attack, but we'd both be goners.

I would only slaughter and eat the meat and dairy farms operators.

if meat was the only food left - we would all die..

we cannot live on meat alone..

I am not vegetarian myself.. I know we need some meat BUT should eat LESS than we do...

here is a link that will interest you as I can understand what you are getting at..

as you all know, humans are intended to eat meat. so yes.
