Organic more nutritious - anyone surprised?!

Question: A study conducted in Germany revealed that apples conventionally grown have 80% less vitamin C than organic apples.
I only eat organic, but it has always been for environmental reasons. I was seriously surprised to learn this - obviously you have less chance of getting sick from organic food, but I really didn't know this.
Am I the only one surprised?

It depends on the research but for years research has leaned towards organic being for nutritious. I am not surprised.

Fortunately, you can get organic veggie meats these days... I prefer good old vegies anyday, but it does go over better with a meat-eating crowd.
I think vegetarian is still a healthy diet, even if not organic - chances of cancer is still greatly reduced - but yeah, eat organic ^o^ Report It

  • Don't believe the hype, one study may have been paid for by a certain company.
From what I understand having been in the catering lark for years is that Organic food may taste nicer but there is more often than not any more benfits in actual nutrtion.

I'm not surprise. A lot of vegetarians go around preaching that their lifestyle is healthier than a person who eats meat. But I really don't think so, especially if they don't buy organic. Because non-organic fruits contain pesticides as well, and those veggie meats...not more healther than shoving a five pound steak down one's throat. It amazes me...

That may be true but I am still wary of "studies" that are commisoned by interest groups to promote their own agenda. Studies are conducted and refuted all the time anyway. There is probably a "study" somewhere that says the opposite but commisioned by the "regular" apple growers.

There was a study made also in Gemany about 60-70 years ago and concluded that people of the Aryan race were better than everybody else. A lot of people thought it was true too.

Oh yah definitely organic foods are in trend now and surely they are much better and delicious, I tried organic rice, vegetables, they really taste different and much crunchier..go on you are in the right health track!....long live ~
