All Vegetarians and Vegans?!

Question: How long have you been a vegetarian/vegan? When did you start and why? How do you feel everyday (happy, energetic, low)? And what do you usually eat/cook for yourself? How much did you weigh before that and how much do you weigh now from being one? I'm really curious!

Four years and a month. I started out because I read that it will be good for my skin, but now remain vegetarian due to ethical reasons.

I am definitely healthier now than when I was still a meat-eater, but not necessarily happier or more energetic. Even when everyone is down with the cold or flu, I rarely ever get sick. If I do get an infection, it would be very mild and not cause me to get bed rest.

I usually cook (and eat) Indian food, experimenting with many kinds of veggies, and lots of tofu. Pasta dishes in Itallian restaurants are always a good alternative. I hate salads, so I have them very rarely, only when there's no other choice.

At first, turning vegetarian made me lose a few pounds, but now that my body is perhaps used to it, it doesn't really make a difference anymore in my weight. But I am still slim compared to most women my age (I'm 41, five feet tall, 108 lbs.).

Can you tell I love being vegetarian? If you're not yet one, give it a try!

Hey.

I went Vegetarian when I was a child so I didn't know anything about it other than the fact that i did not want to eat animals anymore. My parents were pretty clueless and gave me lots of pasta and bread to eat. i gained a lot of weight.
It wasn't till about 20 that I really learned how to eat.
Now my diet is super rich in vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, and some tofu, eggs, fake meat products ala morning star, sprouted grain breads, nuts, and very importantly refined sugar free (there are ALOT of good sugars you can still use)

With that combination I feel great and have dropped 50 pounds.

My story is much like Lisa's I quit eating meat as a kid because it made me so sad. My parents also fed me lots of carbs (my main staple was mac and cheese). In their defense there weren't many options back then. Now I eat tons of soy protein. My favorite line of products is made by Morningstar Farms (its in the freezer section). I have to cook two of everything at my house, one meat entree and one meatless so everyone will be happy.

I turned vegetarian at age 10, vegan at age 15. From veg to vegan, I went from 44kg to 49kg (I'm the only vegan who put on weight, it seems...)
I'm not the happiest person (stress!), but I have a good energy level (especially in the winter... winter food is so much nicer!) I probably eat tofu 6 days a week, drink a litre of soymilk a day, eat all my vegies (except pumpkin ><), and home-made breads (obviously seeds, nuts, and all that jazz as well). I binge on soy chocolate/ice-cream more than I should... I probably eat pizza too much too (soy cheese!)
^^

Seven months now, mainly vegan, mainly raw.

Started for health reasons, to heal a chronic health condition, which was made worse by meat and dairy.

Normally feel happy and energetic. Sometimes if my condition flares (which is does if I eat the wrong things – meat, dairy, processed foods, chocolate) I will feel tired.

Normally cook for myself. Get healthy take-away once a fortnight.

When I started, I was an Australian size 18, now a size 12.

.

I've been a vegetarian for a year and a couple months. I started November 2006, but I didn't eat much meat before that. I only liked some kinds of meat. I'm a vegetarian because it is better for the environment, animals, and my health. Well, my mood depends on the day. Seriously, I don't think food really changes mood much. Physically, I feel pretty healthy since I've become a vegetarian. I eat a lot of things: pasta, pizza, mexican food, tofu, stir-fry...I weigh about the same, but I am not particualarly healthy-I know I don't eat enough veggies and sometimes I do eat too much junk food. But I haven't gained weight or anything.

2 and a half years, almost three-ummm same question really? two and a half years ago lol. b.c i Believe animals have souls and it helps me do my mediumship readings without the flesh /energy of those that have suffred in my body.
I feel fine, thought tired. Not b.c of my diet but b.c i'm in university and i stay up all night studying for stats. I weighed 135-but stress from a death made me gain weight and so i decided to go on a diet (o vege isn't a diet for me it's a lifestyle). of rice and veges-workig out -lost 13 pounds.

So I hope you understand vegetarianism doesn't have anything really to do with the above questions...
Correlation doesn't mean causation...
so my vege diet didnt have tto do with my energy or my weight-other factors did...that's how it will always be for all ppl-and it will depend on what they eat-all vege pizzas and junk food or health foods..

I switched from a careless lifestyle to an observant one when I was 14. It started when I was attempting to body build (lucky genes!), and a lot of hard work later, I weighed 185 pounds... and was pretty cut, 'cept for the belly. Nice, sure, but I've spent my whole life chasing things I never really wanted. So, I kept trying to get better, feel better, perform better, and try better options. I delved into a world of natural treatments and whole foods, then went a more religious route. After that, I was knee deep in herbalism and naturopathic medicine. Now I'm nearly 20 years old and I'm in better physical and mental condition than most people my age. I'm still not a full vegan, but I rarely have anything to do with meat. Occasionally, for example, I'll have some cooked or "bad" food when it's purchased for me as a gift or treat. By example, I've influenced others around me to be more health conscious! So, I don't have such a nagging problem finding good, clean foods as I used to. So, when I started to realize that I didn't like the heavy body feel, being first fat (210-220) and going straight to being muscular, I made the decision to go vegan. I didn't choose veganism for the hype, the style, or the bragging rights. I didn't choose it to be skinny, either. I chose to be a vegan for nearly a year and a half simply because I wanted to check it out and see for myself how it made me feel. I know it may seem like a short try, but that's not the case. I extort the right to make my own decisions and not feel bad about them. I'm not going to force myself to be strictly, 100% this or that. Anyway, lost the muscle weight through cleanse fasting and long walks, began to eat all whole, raw, organic plants and sometimes eggs, . . . And picked up smoking, because I was still missing some fun. ; D I've figured something out... the more pressure you put on yourself to live in a dream, the higher you jump when you near the breaking point. Now, to this day, and this moment, I'm the healthiest I've ever been. The funny thing is, I smoke, I don't worry about meals or how many liters of water I'm drinking, I don't take vitamins, I don't eat only organic foods, and I don't get an hour of cardio. It's because I'm far less stressed. Stress, of all things, I found, can kill you the fastest. I have a physiological craving for a boiled egg, a candy bar, and a half tub of lard! So, I eat it. I have a craving for an orange, 2 full bowls of raw, unseasoned, untopped herb&green salad with a half cup of Yogi tea brand tea? I do that, too! When I feel like my body wants to do somthing physical *(all of the time), I do that. When I want a nap, I do that. When I feel like I can handle another cigarette for the day, I enjoy every last puff, and when I want a toe massage from a lady on the street corner, I do that, too.

But you weren't asking about that! If you don't want to read everything up there: Veganism, in specific, was my favorite way to diet... other than what I'm doing currently. If you can manage a natural - not forced - vegan lifestyle, I totally recommend it! When I was eating only plant foods, mushrooms, etc, I felt 10x lighter, 10x stronger, and every one of my senses worked perfectly. ('cept for my right eye, which has only peripheral vision, due to tree stabbage!) It's a manageable way to eat, as there are a lot of cheap energy and protein sources available... and the rumors are incorrect- B12 is one of the most meticulously recycled nutrients int he human body, aside from water and protein. A clean body makes for an efficient body, I bargain. These are my experiences! Tada!

Ive been vegetarian for 2 and a half months i think . I started when I was 14 because I thought killing animals was meann . I feel pretty much the same as I did when I was eating meat.. My mum cooks for me (: we have soups, bean mixes, salad rolls and other stuff... I think iv put on heaps of weight lol . I dont no how much i weighed and how much now, but i no ive put on some.. but thats probaly because of other things.. not the vege issue .
(:
