Try cooking with a cast-iron pan, the iron will actually leach into the food.
Clams are very high in iron. So is tofu. How about cereal like raisin bran?
Cream of wheat and green leafy vegetables like spinach, nuts & seeds.
Eggplant has loads of iron.
Many people are unsure of how to cook eggplant really well, so here is a great website for free and easy recipes. http://www.vegetariantimes.com
Try canned beans. They are pressure cooked so they cause less gas.
Molasses, Kale, Raisins, any whole grain (not just oats), Cashews (mmm, cashew nut butter!!!), chickpeas (hummus) dried apricots, tofu, quinoa (red is my fave), bok choy (chinese greens), sunflower or sesame seeds (tahini sauce is made from sesame seeds)
How much you need depends on how old you are. Many Americans have too much in their system due to over eating red meat. This causes a toxicity which leads to cancer.
Edit: Kyle makes a good point about cooking in cast iron. It's all I use now. You can often pick up nice ones at the thrift store for cheap. Wash them well, then douse them entirely in olive oil and "bake" them for a bit. This "seasons" them so they don't rust and things don't stick.
