Is there gluten in nutritonal yeast...?!
So... IS there gluten in nutritional yeast?
Answers: maybe it's a dumb question, but I have recently learned about "nutritional yeast" as a healthy cheese substitute, but I am gluten-sensitive and am not sure if I can eat it or not.....

No, nutritional yeast does not contain gluten. Wikipedia describes it as "a deactivated yeast, usually Saccharomyces cerevisiae, similar to brewer's yeast"
Gluten comes from grains, most notably wheat.
Nutritional yeast does give a cheesy flavor to food. The Uncheese Cookbook includes quite a few recipes which use nutritional yeast to add cheese-like flavor to recipes which mimic dairy cheeses.
My NYF states clearly on the front that it is gluten-free. Enjoy!
It all depends on which base it was grown. Some yeast is grown on a barley base which would render the yeast cross-contaminated. Check all packaging before use.
