Does anybody remember isometrics?!
Answers: i had a friend in the good old days(army) that was as strong as a bull. he would always end up in fights that weren't his fault...against like 5 or more guys, it was always way outnumbered and it was never his fault, lol!. and he would always win...somehow. he was a real nice guy, not real brainy. i asked him one day how much did he work out when he was younger. he said he never worked out but his dad had taught him isometrics. then he went on to tell me how his dad had discovered electro isometrics, where electrodes stimulate the muscles. they got free equipment from some distributer as a test group, i guess. i was wondering if anybody remembers anything about this stuff.
I've never liked doing isometrics, and actually people still do them, I have heard it's one of the ways NASA keeps their astronauts in shape during zero grav.
That guy sounds pretty cool, he actually reminds me of a Drill Sergeant I had way back when, a really small guy but scrappy and full of inventive ideas (like the isometrics workout). I don't really remember if we ever did isometrics, maybe we did but I just didn't think of them as that. Mostly I ran a LOT, I'd be out there running the track before chow in the mornings since later on the schedule was too packed.
But since we're sharing military stories, LOL - here goes. This one is from A school, and I can't believe I did this because I could have gotten in serious trouble!
They started making vegetarian MRE's so I was always getting people to trade me for my chicken or whatever to get the veg one. Anyway, sometimes I'd still be going to bed hungry so me and another soldier decided to take matters into our own hands at once point.
We volunteered to help stack sandbags in the supply shed because the MRE storage area was right next door. Anyway me and my battle buddy waited until our supervisor went off somewhere and we both stuffed 2 MRE's each into our uniform, I seriously still can't believe we did this, and we had snacks and stuff to eat for like 2 weeks from them. Oh well I repaid my debt for those 2 lifted MRE's a million times over ;)
Actually they busted me during bunk inspection for it now that I remember because I had one of those peanut butter plastic wrapper things in there (I'd always save the bread and peanut butter for later and carry it w/ me just in case I didn't get anything vegetarian later because I was to high in calories and a balanced meal in and of itself).
I was 91W health care spec myself, that's where I started to go vegan... I went in to the Army at 17 years old, can you believe it? Both my parents singed so I could do it. Long story short though I can't be career Army, I'm doing other things with my life now but it built my character and built who I am more than anything else ever did. My husband stayed in the Marines until he got injured (he was 6-16 artillery/demolitions so he had to deal with deactivating, activating, setting up, removing etc. of explosives and finally he got jacked up from it.)
