Why do non-vegetarians always make fun of vegetarianism?!
Answers: seems to me like a personal choice that shouldnt be of their concern
Not all do, but the ones that do usually do it because they don't understand. They lack conviction about what they eat (and have probably never even given it a second thought), and because they don't care they find it odd that others do.
not all of them do.
A lot of people show their ignorance or confusion by poking fun at someone. They don't understand it, therefore, it must be bad, they think.
because vegetables r friends of human beings and animals are enemies
i don't - i jst find it annoying when vegetarians r like "omg how can u eat - did u know how that got like that" - well why the hell were pigs put on this earth?
It is a personal choice, but then you get the vegan/vegetarian activists who give omnivores a hard time because of their decisions, going into the whole "animal cruelty" spiel and psuedoscientific bs about eating meat being 'not necessary' and being 'bad for you'.
...even though humans have incisor teeth for the specific purpose of eating meat.
In any case, it's not about the food, it's about the politics. The ribbing of vegetarians is reactive to vegan activism. (see: PETA)
I dont..... just ignore them.. LOL who cares what they think
Because many (not all) choose not to understand our way of thinking and our life style. Bullying us makes them feel better about themselves.
As a devout carnivore, I used to have to force myself to eat vegetables as I simply didn't like them. I considered them tasteless and bland beyond belief. My mother, however, was and is a devout vegetarian as she simply didn't like meat. As I grew up, I found myself enjoying cooking and began experimenting with lots of different food types. I now love vegetables (but not as much as fish or meat!)
I believe that it is a lack of education that leads to the ridicule - as is the case in many other walks of life. A great many of we carnivores think of vegetarians as tree-hugging, lentil-supping loonies and don't realise that some people genuinely just don't like to consume animal flesh.
Hope this helps...
they reallt do not understand the reality
mainly ignorance, and they think vegeterians are being deprived by being selective in what they eat. the general thought is that vegeterians live off lettuce leaves...yeah right! vegeterians usually eat a far wider variety of food than non vegies do!
Because the wittle vegans are afraid of chowin on the animals cause it might hurt their feelings. However vegans are not usually voluptuous. They're usually skinny in a bad way.
It's a lack of understanding. Most people don't understand what we vegetarians are about, no matter if we're in it for our health or the animals & environment (or both).
Many people can be ignorant because they don't understand something. If they don't understand it, it must be weird and it must be good joke material.
Not all non-veggies make fun of us though. :) A good friend of mine teases me about it in good fun, but at the beginning, he was pretty much just worried that I was going to die of a protein deficiency, haha. He still calls me things like "veggie head" and he still says "Why did God put on animals on this Earth if we weren't meant to eat them?" and things like that, but he understands what I'm about and respects it.
A lot of people though are total ignoramuses about it all and don't get it. You just have to learn to overlook it and move on - and live with the fact that you're probably healthier and doing better for the Earth than they are, anyway. :)
Some people feel the need to make fun of others for being different. Maybe they are insecure, maybe they are just bored and think it is funny. I just laugh at the silly ones, and roll my eyes at the more serious people who put us down. One day it will all come back to haunt them, not just the ones who pick on veg people, but everyone who picks on others for who they are and the choices they make. I used to let it bother me, but then I realized that if I do that they win. Now I take the stupid things they say and use it to fuel my desire to help animals, seeing so many people not care about them at all lets me know that I have to fight harder and never give up.
There are not many of us and when we are forced to discuss it, they act like they are the only ones who can be correct.
Burger King is the only chain still selling veggie burgers now. If they won't fix you a veggie burger breakfast, just ask to get their manager on the phone and that cures everything. It is two minutes of microwave time. Then they say, but we have to slice a tomato and pluck some lettuce leaves. I keep receipts with me showing the morning time of sale from other stores. They love the power of telling someone you cannot have a burger during breakfast. It is their only power other than spitting on our sandwich if we make them feel too bad.
I think it's because some people make such a big deal out of their own personal choice of being vegetarian. No one needs to announce it to anyone. And they certainly shouldn't make obvious ,comments to those who aren't. (Although I've been guilty of this plenty of times....Especially when I see one too many deer heads hanging on a wall.)
And I think there is a general attitude that vegetarians think they are holier, if you get what I mean. Plus, vegetarianism is now tantamount to being a liberal. How this all came to be is someone else's story to tell.
Good question! I agree!
I guess its because they choose to bully us because it gives them a sense of power.
Just ignore them. Anyone who bullies you over your beliefs is not worth bothering with! x :-)
Ignorance and/or a guilty conscience.
i eat fish so im not vegetarian and i dont make fun of anyone
Depends on the reason for the person being a vegetarian. If they say stuff like, "Killing animals is murder and you're a murderer for eating meat!" Then I like to point out the fact that the bread they eat contains millions of tiny, once-living animals called yeast and the vegetables and fruit they consume was gathered by machines that crushed thousands of rats, insects, snakes, etc. in the process.
But I respect their choice to not eat meat if they respect my choice to eat meat - but in limited amounts.
