Are Vegetarians More Likely to Get Sick Than Non-vegetarians?!
Answers: Just as likely. There is no proof of any difference. No matter what these whack jobs tell you.
I would say less likely, especially if you are talking about long term chronic diseases that can be caused in part by animal product consumption, such as heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and certain forms of cancer.
No. At least not using that general of criteria. Either category can offer healthy and non-healthy diets. A healthier diet would lead to less instances of sickness, but eating meat or not eating meat just isn't specific enough.

for the most part, no. anyone is susceptible to things like colds and flu, but as far as diet-based illness as well as long-term illnesses, vegetarians are in better health that non-vegetarians, generally speaking.
non-vegetarians are more susceptible to food-borne pathogens such as food poisoning. many non-vegetarians also suffer from weaker immune systems due to chemical treatment of food animals (and/or their feed). vegetarians on the whole tend to be healthier and suffer less risk for such ailments as heart disease, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes. because most non-vegetarians eat a high-fat, low-fiber diet putting them at risk for countless ailments.
Actually it's the other way around. Vegetarians are generally more healthy (system detox wise) as the food they eat makes them fit & lean. Most non-veg foods are high in fat though they have their own place in building muscle mass & protein.
No not at all, non vegetarians should get sick more than vegetarians. Vegetarians eat more healthy foods with vitamin C and other vitamins. Also non vegetarians eat meat, which may contain germs if not cared about before eaten.
On the contrary nonvegs are more likely to get sick than vegs.
I dunno....every vegetarian I've ever known and worked with has ALWAYS been sicker than us omnivores. They've all had a constant cold sore or a runny nose. They are also ALWAYS cold. Now before you all jump on me, I said all the ones I know.....and I don't know every single vegetarian out there. I just am going by personal experience. And I've noticed that I and other omnivores had more stamina, plus we had fewer sick days. Not to mention, omnivores are just plain more fun to be around. So I would say yes, Veggies are more likely to get sick then omnis. We are happier, less restrctive in our life style, more relaxed and joyful. And attitude has a lot to do with health.
Oh, for those who think veggies are immune to getting food sickness.....don't forget about the spinach and lettuce that was tainted with e-coli.
Vegetarians and non-vegetarians get sick in different ways. Just like individuals get sick in different ways. It is legitamate for your doctor to be concerned about your lifestyle choices and diet is a big one. Steak and potatoes vs tofu and brocooli can both lead to problems. Thay are just different problems.
I don't know about all illnesses, but I do know that I went through my first flu & cold season as a veg*n and while I did get a couple of colds they only lasted for about 3 days and the symptoms were less severe. Prior to this a cold would last for 2 weeks, at least. Also for the first time ever I didn't get a cold sore! If a person eats healthier then they will naturally be healthier than someone who doesn't. Even vegetarians can eat unhealthily so it's no guarantee against illness.
No. The research on this is very clear.
less likely. they're not pumping so many antibiotics and hormones into their systems through meat. plus their risks of diseases all go down (like diabetes, heart disease, cancers, etc.)
No. Probably less likely.
My great aunt who was a vegetarian died of cancer at age 57. My granny, her sister, is a meat eater (an 8oz fillet mignon once a week) and still walks her dogs at age 87. Perhaps an extreme case but it should dispel any false or misleading claims that vegetarians are healthier.
And to cite India as another example, it has the highest percentage of vegetarians but one of the lowest life expectancies for males. Neighbor Pakistan where the vegetarian proportion is much smaller, has a better life expectancy rate. So does China, another neighbor that is largely omnivorous.
I believe it would be the same for both, just different affects. I'm a vegetarian, but I'm just getting over a cold, which I haven't been sick in a couple of years. Arguments go both ways for this one.
