Would vegetarians eat meat if they were trapped on an island and starving and there was only a monkey to eat?!

Question: or would they rather die?

Answers: or would they rather die?

Ok first I have to say, people stop going on about how there would be fruit and other food sources on the island. That is not the question. I am vegan and I would definetely eat the monkey.

I hate monkeys (I LOVE animals, but the monkey is my least favorite animal by far) so I'd say eat the monkey.

hey YOUNGSHYCAREERGIRL, what if you were able to figure out how to fish? Would you pet the monkey? And if it needed discipline, would you "spank" the monkey? Please tell us!!!

I am a vegetarian and I would not because i am a true vegetarian. I do not believe that eating animals is right!

Assuming it's a completely barren island, free of all plant life, and not surrounded by water (which is full of sea life) but instead surrounded by who-knows-what (lava?) for there to be absolutely nothing to eat but a hypothetical monkey (us? I mean, really, we just evolved a bit further), then yes, I would eat the monkey. As with all living creatures, my own survival preempts my diet and ideology, if only temporarily. Now if there was nobody on this same island but another person, I would probably starve to death before killing and eating one of my own.

well if there was only a monkey, chances are I would die after the monkey was eaten and dead, so depending on the chances of getting saved over the next couple of days I probably wouldn't eat the monkey.

try to catch a monkey, ok...and, if there are monkeys then there are bananas. and coconuts.

Well if theres a monkey theres obviously something else to eat, right?

If I were a vegetarian I would eat it, in less I knew that I was going to die soon on the island anyway. I think if I knew I had a chance for survival I would eat the monkey, or go fishing. How to cook the monkey?!?! I don't know!

Ah yes, the mythical island scenario. Can't do any better than a question we've been asked 157 times?

What's the monkey eating? If the island is supporting the monkey, it can support me, too.

If it was absolutely the last thing around for miles, I might if it means that it would give me energy to walk miles to look for vegetation. Though I don't know if I could actually prepare it without throwing up or passing out. I'm more of a vegetarian because I loathe the way animals are treated in this country. It's downright shameful and embarrassing.

Yes. Pass the monkey chops. Monkey is very healthy if eaten in moderation.

Well, the monkey would be starving, too, now wouldn't he? So what good would that do? If I'm on a tropical island, chances are, there are plants available for me to eat, and I just see what the monkey eats and eat that as well.

And as Mockingbird pointed out, this is another gotcha question trolls LOVE to ask to trip up vegans. Man, give it a freaking rest, would ya?

I would hope he stashed some bananas somewhere and we could both have food.

What is the monkey eating to survive? I would eat that, if he isn't eating anything then I would fish because islands are masses of land surrounded by water. If there are no fish then the monkey and I would starve to death together, because once the monkey has been eaten then I would starve anyway. And I don't think I have it in me to kill a monkey.

The better scenario would be if you were trapped in a desert with your pet chicken... a desert devoid of vegetation and water for miles and miles around. Then, would you eat your pet chicken?

Well, the monkey is alive then there's gotta be fruits and vegetables around, right?

First off, history will show that humans will do almost anything to survive! Even eat other humans if it came down to it. (They won't always wait till a member of their party dies naturally, either!) So anything is possible when the situation is severe enough.

Most likely, if you are on a tropical island, there are going to be some veg foods available. And who better to know about what plants/fruits/mushrooms are edible then a vegetarian/vegan?

I'm sure that he/she would much prefer to find another source for food than to kill the monkey.... But at the end of the day, if surviving meant eating the monkey, I'm sure the monkey would be eaten.

Id follow the monkey, see what he's eating and pinch some of his fruit
