Question for people who have been vegetarian or vegan since birth?!
ok, lots of questions, whatever you want to answer. i'm curious. not i nor any vegs i know have been that way since birth, we all chose it on our own and most were the only ones in our families. so i'm curious about people brought up this way and how to handle with my own children. thanks!
Answers: how do you feel about this? are you still a vegetarian or vegan? did you ever try meat? how did your parents handle this as you were growing up? were you ever mad at them for not giving you meat? or did they?
ok, lots of questions, whatever you want to answer. i'm curious. not i nor any vegs i know have been that way since birth, we all chose it on our own and most were the only ones in our families. so i'm curious about people brought up this way and how to handle with my own children. thanks!
I'm glad I was raised that way.
I don't get why so many people believe it's wrong to not give their kids meat. Do you also think it's wrong to restrict your kids from alcohol, smoking, drugs and sex? I could argue that sex and red wine, in moderation, are no more harmful than meat. But that's beside the point. Then again, I don't think my parents could have physically stopped me from eating meat if I truly wanted to. But I didn't want to.
I know a single mother who allowed her son to start eating meat because he insisted on doing so (peer pressure); That's a difficult decision to make either way, and I think she did the right thing. But wait till your kid demands it before you give in. And make sure he/she fully understands the implications of those demands.
So, basically, I think restricting your child from what he or she truly wants is questionable. But that's the only reason. It has got nothing to do with endangering the kid's health. On the contrary, they are likely to be healthier than their burger-munching peers.
I just want to say that raising children this way isn't exactly best for them.
I nor my boyfriend have been vegan since birth, but we are raising our child as a vegan since birth.
I am life time vegetarian now vegan. I was born in India, my family moved to london, UK, when i was 8. I moved to USA, when i was 23.
how do you feel about this: I never really questioned it too much, only when I grew up, and did research, I than was very thankful.
are you still a vegetarian or vegan: I am 31, and recently became vegan, i wish I had done it eariler. But see I never really questioned it, so I never did any research before. So when i do the research, boom became a vegan.
did you ever try meat: when i 8 and new to London, I did not know how to speak English, so I ate a burger, because all the other kids were. It was an accident. But I have never actually wanted to eat meat.
how did your parents handle this as you were growing up: My grandmother was a vegetarian, (parents not around) and really it was just me and her so nothing to handle, she cooked and I ate. lol. -
were you ever mad at them for not giving you meat: Infact I tell my granny thank you for making me vegetarian. I thank her.
I married a American man that eat meat, but there is no meat in the house. I do not cook it. -
I know a few young mothers that are raising their children vegetarian. When I am mom, I will do the same. - more vegan, but when they go to parties, probably vegetarian, because people don't always understand what vegan means!
If you need to talk to other vegetaran moms, I could give you their email add's. - you can email me.
Great question.
I know the question wasn't directed to myself but thought I'd comment any way. I wasn't born vegan, I made this decision later on. I'm the only one in my family. But I am going to raise my children vegetarian or vegan. When they are older they can choose to maintain their vegan/veg lifestyle or not. But until they are old enough to make that choice, I will do what I believe is best for my children. I believe this is no different to christian parents raising christian children. I don't see what the big deal is.
i wasnt mad at them for not letting me eat meat
thinking about it it feels like the right thing to do!
