Veganism
NO red meat, fish, poultry OR dairy, eggs, honey or any other animal by product. Veganism usually extends beyond just avoiding consuming animal products. It is a philosophical and or ethical point of view which, aims to minimize animal suffering by eliminating the use of all animal products such as leather, fur, wool and silk and avoiding products tested on animals.

Lacto-ovo vegetarianism
NO red meat, fish or poultry
Eats dairy and eggs

Lacto vegetarianism
NO red meat, fish, poultry OR eggs
Eats dairy

Ovo vegetarianism
NO red meat, fish, poultry OR dairy
Eats eggs

Pescetarians, Pollotarians and Flexitarians are NOT vegetarians, they are are omnivores.

All vegans may be vegetariand but all vegetarians will not be vegans.

Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose.[1][2] Vegans do not use or consume animal products of any kind.[3] The most common reasons for becoming a vegan are ethical commitment or moral convictions concerning animal rights, the environment, human health, and spiritual or religious concerns.[4][5][2] Of particular concern are the practices involved in factory farming and animal testing, and the intensive use of land and other resources required for animal farming.

Various polls have reported vegans to be between 0.2%[4] and 1.3%[6] of the U.S. population, and between 0.25%[5] and 2.24%[7] of the UK population.

Vegan diets (sometimes called strict or pure vegetarian diets) are a subset of vegetarian diets, which are credited with lowering the risk of colon cancer, heart attack, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, prostate cancer, and stroke.[8] However, vegan diets can be low in levels of calcium, iodine, vitamin B12 and vitamin D. Vegans are therefore encouraged to plan their diet and take dietary supplements as appropriate.

Vegetarian - don't eat meat, some will eat eggs (eco veg)

vegetarians won't eat meat. Vegans won't eat anything that derives from an animal, eg milk, eggs. I think I'm right in saying they won't wear or use anything that comes from a dead animal either, thus they won't wear leather.
Not sure about honey: I imagine one could argue that the honey is stolen from bees, but then by the same logic they wouldn't wear wool or silk either - would be interested to know this.

By definition, vegetarians are those individuals that do not eat any meat products, they will however, eat dairy products and eggs.

Vegans on the other hand, do not consume any animal products at all! Or derivitives or such.

I think it is the same, Vegan is more slang.

To make a long answer short, Vegetarians won't eat meat and Vegans won't consume anything that came from and animal.

Basically a vegan will not eat any animal product, regardless of how it is obtained - so honey comes from bee's, hence why they don't eat that. Vegetarians will eat animal products that can be obtained without killing the animal so cheese, milk honey etc are all OK but wont eat meat as the animal has to die to obtain it !

I am a vegan who doesn't eat honey because bees are killed to get honey, and basically you are exploiting another animal. Some vegans have different views on honey and other animal products, so I can't speak for everyone but that is my personal view.

Basically the main difference, as far as I am aware, is that vegans avoid any animal products as far as humanly possible, vegetarians avoid meat (although as listed by another poster, there are many subsets of so-called vegetarians).

SLF...no I don't wear wool, silk or leather (apart from items that I owned before I became vegan). Silk is obtained by boiling silkworms alive in their coccoons, and obtaining wool causes pain and suffering to sheep, even if it doesn't directly kill them.

Vegan's are the one's that won't have ANYTHING at all to do with animals and their food such as;
they won't eat meat, milk, honey, cheese, etc.

Vegetarian's (such as myself) are the one's that won't eat meat and thats all.

Vegetarians don't eat foods that come from killing animals. This includes meat, meat broths, lard, tallow, gelatin and rennet.

Vegans don't eat anything of animal origin whatsoever, regardless of whether or not the animal is killed for it. So they avoid all the same things vegetarians avoid, plus dairy, eggs and honey.

Veganism is not just a dietary choice, though. It implies a concern for animal welfare and seeks to avoid all forms of animal exploitation. So we also do not buy, wear or use products of animal origins. We don't wear leather, silk, wool, suede, fur or down and we select consumer products (like toiletries and cleaning products) that don't have animal ingredients and haven't been tested on animals. Most vegans also avoid industries that exploit animals for entertainment, like circuses and rodeos.

Vegan=Does not eat dairy or meat...technically anything that comes from and animal or is an animal.

Vegetarian=Does not eat meat, but does eat dairy.
