Vegan rawhide made of yams?!

Question: I am vegan, but I must confess that I give my dog those expensive enzyme rawhide chews. It really bothers me, but I didn't think there was a vegan version of rawhide... (if you're going to blast me, please don't... I'm trying my best to be a good person and I don't need to be made to feel terrible by fellow veg's)

Anyway, I found some vegan chews online called "Sam's Yams" made by Front Porch pets. I am definitely going to try them. I was just wondering if anyone has given these to their dog, and if the dog liked them. Or, is there any other brand that's good that I can try?

Thanks so much :)

I dont think they were criticizing you, some people just really care about their dogs, and people need to know that that dogs are mainly carnivores.

Yam chews are perfectly fine to give your dog, you can find things like that in the doctor foster and smith catalog. They have all kinds of healthy treats for your cat or dog. They will probably be more expensive and not last as long as traditional rawhides though. To be honest, reawhide is really only good in small quantities anyway, it is hard to digest.

Its great that you are looking for healthy treats for your dog, so many people feed their pets crap kibble from the grocery store without actually reading what is on the label.

I am sorry but, why does your dog have to follow a vegan lifestyle?

Dogs are carnivores. That can't change this because their bodies aren't made for a vegetarian lifestyle. I understand your concern about feeding raw hide chews, but your dog is still going to have to eat dog food. I certainly hope you aren't trying to feed him a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle because he will get sick...ask a vet. It's like trying to feed a horse meat...it will make them sick (they wouldn't eat it anyway). I don't think you should feel guilty at all about feeding your carnivore dog meat or raw hide chews.
