Changing my Diet?!

Question: How do I ease myself into a more Ovo-Vegetarian based diet?

I am a 22 year old college student who is active but still suffers from weight fluctuation. I also get run down easily, and suffer from heartburn easily. How can I make this transition in a way that isn't drastic, but will benefit my health, and help me in the long run.

I just want to be healthy.

I would love input from people who have done the same and it has worked for them, and people who can give good advice.

Also easy starter recipes would be great too!!

I'd first make a list of your favorite non-vegetarian foods and recipes... then figure out how to turn them into vegetarian versions. For instance:

Pasta and meatballs = pasta and Nate's Meatless Meatballs
BLT = BLT with Smart Bacon (veggie bacon)

Then, gradually incorporate more of the fake meats and other vegetarian foods into your meals.

Good luck!

a good way to start is changing the way you snack, instead of chips or sweets, try fruits, cheese, yogurt, etc... for instance dessert at my house is sometimes cheddar cheese and apples, cottage cheese and pineapple or strawberry yogurt. we keep plenty of baby carrots and ranch dressing on hand for mid day snacks, also cherry tomatoes, pears and apples, and string cheese. good luck. after you get started you might find it easier to start making changes to your meals

You might try a bi-monthly juice fast to help with the heartburn. Heartburn means your digestion isn't working right. 90% of our pancreas creates digestive enzymes leaving just 10% for metabolic enzymes - those repair us. Fasting can aleviate the production of metabolic enzymes just enough to correct the problem.

Hit your local library and get a few recipe books. If you're using nuts as a meat replacement, buy raw nuts and soak them. It makes them easier to digest.

You have to make sure you are eating about 5 small meals a day the should help the heart burn if not find out what food is causing it. Just keep the food simple to begin with in there.
