Are vegetarians good students?!
or no?
Answers: because they eat a lot of brain nourishing vegetables, and a lot of their bodies' energy, that would have been spent digesting meat, has been used in intellectual pursuits?
or no?
I think the side benefits, of being a vegetarian.are the elements that help be more intelligent.
1) more energy
2) less time need to stay healthy
3) less time being sick
there are many factors to consider.
If you are really interested, try it for 6 months. - eat loads of fruit , veggie, beans, grains, and see how your own preformance is effected.
yes but crazy !
I am a vegetarian and I am a good student.
However I know vegetarians who are bad students.
It depends on how much of a motivated person you are - most vegetarians are motivated
There was a study in the British Medical Journal that states that children with higher I.Q.s are more likely to grow up to be vegetarians.
Another study (conducted at Stanford University) showed that they aren't as strong and are less able to endure physical exertion.
There is no study that has shown that vegetarianism increases intelligence.
You can't generalize like that. There are plenty of poor students who are vegetarians and also vegetarians who are A students.
I'm a veg and I have a 1.7 GPA (not ashamed, I don't get a lot out of school) and my sister who is also a vegetarian has a 4.0. We're all different.
Depends on the vegetarian. How can you generalize about such a large group?
My daughters are not and they are at the top of their classes. There are only about 14 vegetarians in the whole school of about 1600 kids. All fourteen are average students.
I am sure many vegetarians are good students. But many other more important factors play a role in how students perform in school. A student who spends one hour reading his/her school work will be a much better student than one who spent his hour playing video games regardless of whether they are omnis or vegetarians. You cannot generalize something like this because you favor one diet over another and try propagate the supposed superiority of your choice.
By the way, fish is considered the best brain food. Vegetables are harder to digest and require more energy. People who spend less time thinking or obsessing with food (what can I eat? does this have meat in it? Is that vegetarian? etc etc etc) have more time using their brains for something else.
Some are.
Protein is actually what nourishes the brain. It's been proven that man's ancestor's beginning to eat meat was the catalyst behind the evolution of the human brain.
otaqueen---in that same flawed study 33% of the people who claimed to be vegetarians also admitted that they ate meat.
Well, I'm 12 and vegetarian, but I'm still at the top of my class... I'm not sure if that goes for all vegetarians, but I'm 1 example...
Diet is only a small and debatable influence on intelligence or how good one is as a student. More important would be:
(a) parent's education/level of education obtained - this does influence how far you'll go
(b) parent's income and social status - believe it or not, massive sociological studies have proven that parent's social status in America (yes! USA!) is still the greatest deciding factor on where you end up as an adult and on most things you experience
(c) where the child lives, what school they attend
(d) the child's personal character, study habits, studiousness and other applicable skills like a natural knack for learning
(e) whether the child can afford a tutor, school books, a calculator, even basic tools like pencils and paper - my grandmother was a school teacher for 30 years and there were some students that would fail miserably and not turn in homework and at first she'd think they were lazy or "bad" kids, but she found out that sometimes very, very poor students didn't even have a lunch to bring to class or a pencil to use. Once again that's part of a parent's position in society, very unfortunately.
(f) How much sleep a child gets and yes - finally - whether they eat a balanced diet - but a child can be a stellar student and eat a vegetarian diet or be a stellar student and eat meat - it just has to be a balanced diet.
You also assume that it takes massive amounts of energy to digest meat. That's flawed to begin with, in fact most plant life also have indigestible or very slowly digesting properties.
wow thats stupid...i was a meat eaters and got a first class honours degree in forensic science....and actually meat evolved our brain to the point it is now...so i would say meats better for the brain......FACTUAL EXAMPLE
dolphin (eats meat) = intelligent
cow (eats veg) = dumb as a rock
but to answer your question fairly both omnivores and meat eaters can be good students...and one stereotypicL thing is that you assume just because we eat meat...we eat it all the time 24 hours a day.....which is completely unfounded....so where is you proof to back these claims up?????
some are and some are not. i got straight A's before i switched to being a vegetarian and i get straight A's now.
Before I became veg, I still had a 4.0 GPA. I'm a veg and I'm pretty much still doing them same.
Being a vegetarian has nothing to do with school. The grades you obtain is because of the effort you put into studing and practicing those damn equations lol.
It is an interesting question though, but very questionable. There are different levels of intellect, and vegetarians can fall into each category, as well as ominvores.
