Answers: Every time I've eaten it, its been spicy. I like how tofu tastes but I can't eat spicy food.

Tofu takes on the taste of whatever it's cooked with. It sounds like you've always gotten it places where it's cooked spicy! It is more common in Asian cuisines than Western cuisines, and often Asian foods have a lot of heat. Tofu can be savory or sweet depending on how it's prepared. It makes nice chocolate mousse and goes great in smoothies. You might want to try making it at home sometime so you can flavor it how you please.

That's just the way it's cooked. Tofu usually doesn't taste like anything, except for what it's cooked in.

no tofu is actually always bland....when not cooked in heavy spices

No tofu picks up that flavor of whatever it is cooked in. I really like toffuti cuties in wild berry. The are like an ice cream sandwich but instead of ice cream it is wild berry flavored tofu.

tofu doesn't taste like anything so you get it cooked weird

NO! Tofu is actually very bland all the spiciness comes from what is added.

In addition to what others have said, this is the reason I like tofu as a meat replacement in virtually any dish. No matter what the recipe calls for, tofu does a great job of replacing the meat/fish/poultry.

It's true that tofu does seem to do a REALLY good job of soaking up any seasoning, especially spice. I like to cut up extra firm tofu and then marinate it in Schezuan sauce. It's so spicy that it always makes my nose run, but it's also very healthy for your brain. Spicy foods provide a lot of sensory stimuli, almost like reading a really good book.

tofu is bland.. it's like flour. it doesn't have a taste... it tastes just like whatever you marinate it in. so it's not spicy until someone put lots of spices in it when cooking it.

Oh, no, tofu is quite bland. It's the person who cooked it who made it spicy. You can make your tofu as spicy or as bland as you like.

No. Do you make your own tofu? If so, it shouldn't be spicy. It may be spicy if you eat it at restaurants. I know Indian restaurants have a lot of spicy foods.
