Is meat "only "delicious + tasty because of all the salt and spices on it?!

Question: would people still eat as much meat, if it had no extra seasoning? Not forgetting majority of seasoning coems plants.

I could/can eat all my vegetables and fruits and - some - beans and grains without any extra spices.

Since you seem to be asking a serious question, I will do you the courtesy of giving you a serious answer.

Meat can be perfectly delicious on its own without any additional salt, marinades, rubs, seasonings, sauces or condiments. It does depend on how it is cooked and the quality and cut of the meat.

That being said, I no longer eat meat for health reasons and resist the urge to indulge my taste for it. Also, many people (maybe even most people) would disagree with me because they are used to salting and seasoning their meat in the manner you have suggested and thus would find meat without the additives to be bland.

Personally, I can eat fruits without any additional flavorings (syrups, sugars, sauces, creams or yoghurt) and find it remarakble that so many people need them to enjoy fruit. I find the way so many people require sweeteners for fruits and juices to be especially odd.

With vegetables, I can eat them plain or season them in various ways according to what I feel like at the time. I avoid adding salt or sugar and try to rely on natural flavors from herbs, spices and extracts.

Yes

actually, i kindof like the taste of meat. i HATE it and will never eat it, but back when i was not a vegan my parents always cooked it without spices. i loved it.

Yep, anything can be delicious with some spices. Most meat eaters don't eat plain chicken just like veg*ns don't usually eat tofu plain. But textures are much different, vegetarian textures are much softer and lighter where meat is denser because muscle weighs so much.

Anyway, it all comes down to seasoning. Yes you are right on the money!

Edit: To Mechanic....bacon is all preservatives, spices, and hickory smoke flavor. It doesn't taste like that right out of the pig!!

Well I'm more inclined to think it's because meat is an acquired taste like any other.

carpediem,
you mean gardenburgers give you 18% of your daily value for salt, not 18% salt. Anything 18% salt would be inedible.

Sorry, but that is ridiculous. I don't season meat any more than I season vegetables, and meat can be very tasty without seasonings (ever heard of bacon?) Why don't you just relax and eat a nice salad. Stop trying to think of ways to ridicule people for having a diet that you don't approve of.

kyle, you're an idiot. You can easily buy bacon that doesn't have a bunch of crap added to it. It tastes good because it is extremely fatty and salty, and fat and salt tastes good. Leaner meats are also rather tasty without seasoning, they're just a little bland (as are vegetables).

King Arthur, WTF are you talking about? Raw pigs? Your question was about unseasoned meat, not raw meat. Nice try, though.

You could be right, but I do tend to like a good steak as is without all the steak sauce and seasonings. I think it is whatever you have learned to eat and appreciate.

I'm probably the exception, because my girls are always complaining that I never use enough salt or sugar in anything... lol

NO.....
JUST THINK what you have to do to TOFU to make it edible!!!!
First you have to squeeze all the SALTY LIQUID out of it...
and ANY time I've had tofu it's been MIXED in with numerous other things and TONS of spices!!
The edadame that I microwave BEGS for salt...or SOY sauce.....
What a hypocritical delusional question.

Even Gardenburgers are 18% SALT!!!

I don't know. I have'nt tried yours yet. LOL

Yes. The meat tastes really bland and dull without the spices and seasoning.

I like my meat cooked without seasonings. However i do like to season it to so i really don't think that matters.
I also have purchase a hog and have it butchered and i don't have the ham or bacon cured as i do like the taste of uncured bacon to that of cured bacon my choice.
i don't eat much chicken but i do like it cooked with salt and no other seasonings.
ayfr

i eat steak and chicken without seasoning and sauces and think it tastes just fine..but its like alot of foods alot of people try to improve the flavour by adding things...you dont eat all your food raw..i bet you cook it, season it or add other spices to it....why? to make it taste better....if taste didnt matter to us and it didnt make us happy then we would just eat somthing close to a bland paste packed with everything we need....thats not the case though

the way i think of it is this, "Why eat the cow, when you can get the nutrients from the source". The cow eats the veggi's and gets the protein, then we eat it from cow...just get it yourself. The only thing that makes dead animals good HAS to be the spices and stuff........Think of it that way, then go to a store called ABC and get veggi substitutes for everything!

No. That's absurd. Though I do love freshly picked, freshly peeled, fresh fresh carrots!!
