A fitness question vegans & veggies?!
How often do you work out or train?
How long is each session?
What does your training routine consist of?
Do you think having a veg(etari)an diet has helped or hindered your exercise regime?
Thanks =)
Answers: I'm asking in the V&V section not the health and fitness section because I'm curious about other vegan and vegetarians fitness.

How often do you work out or train?
3-5 times a week
How long is each session?
30 min to an hour; I walk a lot too
What does your training routine consist of?
Varies. Some days it's running, ellipticals machine or other; some days it's swimming; some days it's yoga and step aerobics; I like to mix it up.

It probably helped because it made me think more about what I eat and it's relationship to my body; I'm pretty sure if I never stopped eating meat and never thought about food critically I'd have never exercised and I'd be like my parents by now (who are both overweight), or my brother (also overweight)
i dont work out or train at all
1. I used to about 4 months ago but haven't recently
2 about 2 hours :)
3. Running
4. Yeah it does but proteins and iron is hard getting so usually I feel fainting, and gotta take pills
:) your welcome
Personally, when I went on a vegetarian diet and ate a lot of veggies, just a small amount of cheese and other dairy, and drank plenty of water (while staying in the target amount of calories) I was very weak and exercising was more like a huge chore that I never wanted to do. I also gained weight while trying to eat vegetarian. This went on for 2 months before I realized that for my body, this wasn't healthy and started to eat meat again and was fine.. Lost weight and exercise was fun again.
I went vegan last year and i was 14 and after 2 weeks I had loads of energy! I used to be so tired when i was just veggie but being vegan meant i had to try new foods which gave me loads more energy!
I've worked out four times a week for the last two years. I do 20 minutes aerobic exercise and then 30 minutes of different weight machines at my gym. I've personally found that since becoming a vegetarian it's helped my overall fitness, because I have more energy and I view working out more as a sort of fuel for my body rather than a way to burn off calories.
I worked out five days a week for 45 mins to 2 hours. I did yoga, lifted weights, core strength you name it. Variety is important for continuing to get somewhere instead of plateauing. I'm six months pregnant now and still maintain a smaller version of that. I know that once I became a vegetarian (started at 19, now 24) I felt more energized, stronger and a general sense of well being. I'm not saying this will work for everyone but it did for me! :) You never know until you try.
1. 5 days per week
2. 45 minutes
3. Weights/running on treadmill
Helped, I'm in great shape. I've never met a fat vegetarian.
1. 1-3 times per week
2. 30minutes-1.5 hours
3. Running
4. Vegan diet increases endurance
I work out 5 or 6 days a week. Each session depends hugely on what I'm doing (swim workouts are fairly short compared to bike rides.) My training routine consists mostly of running, swimming and biking because I'm training for the triathlon season, but I'm trying to get a little weight training wedged in there are well. I couldn't really tell you if being vegetarian has had an effect on my workouts because I've been veg since I was 16 (I'm 38 now.) I was on swim team in high school and don't remember any significant change the season after I went veg. I switched to vegan 6 months ago, but haven't seen any changes in energy level or whatnot from vegetarianism.
How often do you work out or train? At least a little something everyday but actual concentrated working out is 3 days per week usually. I like to bust out some weightlifting in the morning while the shower is getting steamy. I do a lot of bike riding, whether it be outdoors or inside on the exercise bike.
How long is each session? The actual "workouts" are like 30-40 minutes, depending on what I'm doing.
What does your training routine consist of? Weightlifting and the bikes.
Do you think having a veg(etari)an diet has helped or hindered your exercise regime? Neither. I eat meat. BUT, I would offer that vegers that are vegers for health reasons are more likely to benefit from their diet through exercise as opposed to animal right vegers, by default.
I hope my answering as a meater doesn't upset you or anyone else.

I'm not vegan, however... I do know what I need before a workout, and that is a small meal of part carbs and part protein. mine usually involves fruit and yogurt, but I am sure that carb/protein combo is easily achieved in a vegan diet with soy and fruit. I work out ideally 4 days a week, 1.5 hours each time (45 cardio, 45 weights) and I walk in the park on my break at work, weather permitting. I am sure vegans that know how to get the proper nutrients do just fine with energy levels.
1. 3 days in the gym. 1 day of fake exercise (mowing/cleaning/etc.)
2. 30-40 minutes of weights followed by 20 minutes cardio
3. Mostly compound exercises using free weights when possible.
Sample Day (Wednesday - Leg & Shoulder Day)
5 min. warm-up on treadmill
Barbell Squats 3 sets of 8 reps
Dumbbell Shrugs 2x8
Lying Leg Curls 2x8
Dumbbell Military Press 3x8
Standing Calf Raises 2 sets to failure
20 minutes on the Elliptical
4. Honestly, I don't know if it has made a difference because I haven't really worked out (until recently) for almost two years. I just became generally more health conscious when I became a vegetarian and started exercising too. So I guess it helped my exercise regime in that I got off my lazy a**. :)
