It CAN be bad.
Depends how often you eat it.
A lot of it carries bad diseases.
In my opinion it isn't steralized good enough.
If everyone seen how disgusting the slaughter houses were, they might agree.
Also, Most of it is fried with gallons of grease, which causes acne, obesity, heart problems.
I think it's pretty disgusting.
Most mass produced meat suppliers get meat from hormone injected animals. It's all of that hormone's & junk they feed the animals to make them fatter & faster to send to market.
If you want to eat meat once in awhile go to a good natural health food market & get hormone free meat.
Eggs are the same, cage eggs the worst. Chickens live their lives in cages & are fed hormones to produce large quantities of eggs that are not as good for you. Organic or what is called "scratch" eggs where the chicken can roam & eat good organic grain, lays a much healthier egg for us to consume.
At 16 you need iron so if you did go to be a complete vegan you need iron if your a girl plus multi-vitamins high in the B-complex, daily.
eating meat is fine. you might be eating too much of it. try eating a serving of meat that's about as big as the palm of your hand. 'meat destroying your health'? just sounds like youre worried about youre weight. i was vegetarian for a few months, but i switched back and realized how much it screwed me up. meat gives you iron and iron helps carry oxygen to help your physical activity and build up your immune system. not getting the proper amount can make you anemic and tired. and if youre getting chubby, burn more calories than you consume.
It's not the meat itself that is bad for your health - a lot of healthy people eat meat, but you need to eat it in moderation, I think.
BUT.
It's what's in the meat - the fact that it's raised on GMO corn and soy products, pumped full of antibiotics and hormones and the fact that the animal itself was probably raised in poor conditions and ate a diet of non-organic food, which means that many of the pesticides and chemicals the animal ate are likely stored in it's tissue, in particular fatty tissue.
There are links to cancer and other diseases but research tends to show it is red meat, and it's pretty proportionate to the amount of meat you eat - but it's very easy to eat a lot of meat in American society.
Think about it - a serving of meat is very small. A single portion of steak at a restaurant is easily 2-3 servings of meat, pretty much all you need for the day and then some according to the Food Pyramid. People eat meat with everything - they layer bacon on their plate for breakfast, they pile cold cuts on their sandiwches, they dice meat into their salads, they glaze their veggies with bacon and butter, and dinner is always a slab of meat that is easily 2 times the portion size.
All of those things have been proven to be bad for your health. Also, there are some cuts of meat that are better than others, probably. The higher the fat content, the more calories it has, and the more likely it is that it'll push you over your caloric limit for the day (and what you consume in excess usually becomes fat on your body).
In general, if you want to trim down it would help if you exercised, that's the number one way I maintain weight now (just 3-5 times a week, a workout that's anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour). I also walk as much as I can, that's really helpful.
The truth is I really like to eat and even though I eat a vegan diet, I'm always cooking and baking. I eat cookies, cake, pies, muffins, cupcakes. I eat food with creamy sauces, tons of nuts and peanut butter and I'm not afraid to fry or sautee my food. So really other than the fact that my diet is full of fiber, I think it's mostly the fact that I exercise that I can credit my thinness to.
If you can't cut out all meat then look at your portion sizes and think about how often you eat it. It might be easy to at least substitute black beans or tofu or tempeh for meat in some of the food you cook or eat.
Remember though - weight loss will NOT make you feel better, essentially. It's not like if you shed some pounds you gain self esteem and love and happiness. In fact, you'll probably just want to lose more. It's important to work on loving yourself now and being happy now, and then taking good care of yourself (eating healthy, exercising) should go along naturally with self esteem.
Meat isn't necessarily "bad" for your health, but is is a lot less healthy than alternatives food such as fruits veggies and grains. Meat has been proven to cause colon cancer, heart disease and other health problems in men and women. Especially processed foods such as Sausage and ground meats, mostly due to the fact that there is so much fat. There is no question that meat can be detrimental to your health, but for many people the taste of it is just worth the risks. Most vegetarians, if eating a balanced diet, feel much better after they have stopped eating meat. I have been a veggie for a very long time now and feel great and have no weight issues, and I even had a baby 9 months ago!! Good luck...I definitely recommend it. Feel free to contact me with any other questions :)
Maggie is right...there are alot of chemicals in meat such as hormones and antibiotics that can really casue problems, especially in children.
Contrary to what some people here are saying. Meat IS BAD for your health! I don't see why doctor's would tell cancer recovery patients to STOP EATING MEAT, on the contrary, they encourage the patient to eat fruits and vegetables. Well no duh, fruits and vegetables are food! Sexy baby, do your research. Meats are a great cancer causer, they promote obesitiy, acne, fatigue, and not that bright thingking. If you want to live healthy, ceasing to eat animals is a good thing. Exercise will not only help you lose weight, it will help you strengthen you bones, muscles (heart, brain) and immune system, you'll have clearer skin and eyes....good nails.......hair.........you won't be stinky like the others.........all the good stuff.
Meat is not bad for you if it is eaten in moderation. That is the propaganda that is spewed from militant veggie people who think they are superior. If you were to adapt a flex vegan lifestyle you would see the benefits of eating small amounts of meat.
Flex vegan=all of the benfits of a healthy vegan diet, but none of the awkward social stigmas that are attached to it.
Well, people in general eat far too much meat. I am a vegan myself. Meat is often injected with many hormones (sometimes why young girls are getting their periods so early). But even if you buy meet from "free range farms" they still go to the butchers to be processed. And the is the saying that if slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian". If you are really interested in becoming a veggie, do some research.
GoVeg.com is a great site
Good luck!
Humans are omnivores and aren't necessarily supposed to eat a lot of meat.
It takes longer to digest than fruits and veggies, and can sit in your digestive system for quite a while.
It also has a lot of fat and calories, so if you aren't active everyday, and have no need for an excess amount of meat in your diet, then you will most likely gain weight, unless you have a really high metabolism.
The good thing about meat, though, is that it has a good amount of proteins, and if you go vegetarian you're going to have to make sure that you're getting enough protein and vitamins, the ones that you usually get from a meat diet.
For me this wasn't really a problem because meat wasn't a big part of my diet anyway, but for others it can be a drastic change.
I've found from my own experience, and many other's, that they felt healthier after they stopped eating meat, and for some, even healthier after they dropped dairy.
Hope that helped a little :)
Says who? Meat in itself is not harmful. It's the type of meat t, how it is cooked and how often and how much of it you eat that makes the difference. Grilled lean meat no more than 4-6 ounces is not bad for you. Served with a salad for example,it makes a healthy low fat meal. The same thing however, deep fried then smothered with cheese and served with French fries makes it a lot unhealthier. .
Talk to your Dad about your concerns. He might be willing to listen if he finds out how all of this is making you feel. And please exercise. A 30 minute brisk walk goes a long way (no pun intended) I am a vegetarian but if I don't watch what I eat and exercise regularly, I know I will be as unhealthy as anybody there.
Meat isnt neccisarly bad for your health its just the way you cook it. If you like your meat red then there are chances of diseases. If you eat it well done then thats the healthiest way
And if you eat too much meat then that can also be bad.
