Question: These pictures put things into perspective for me:

So why do shops class this stuff as vegetarian.

I am NEVER EVER going to eat anything with egg in it ever again. I am so glad I came across these pics. I didn't know what I was doing. :(

Are eggs vegetarian or non-vegetarian, depends on what type of vegetarian you are:

Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarians:They eat dairy, eggs and plant products

Lacto-Vegetarian: They eat dairy and plant products

Ovo-Vegetarians: They eat eggs and plant products.

Vegans: eat only plant products.

  • They are veggie but you cant have them if your a vegan

their are specialized eggs for eating that are vegetarian. the eggs that people eat every day would not have been chickens.

    Oh noooooo,,,

peopel always told me that a female chicken always lays an egg a day and when she is with a male they have eggs that have babies.

I really do not know....i eat eggs and have been a vegetarian for two years.

    never again.

the pictures put things in perspective for you? you mean you didnt know chicks came from chicken eggs?? well anyway i LOVE them and no pic of a little chicken is gonna stop me eating them

Eggs aren't vegetables they are animal products (like milk) The eggs you buy from the shop are unfertilised and cannot develop into a chick.

Where exactly did you think chickens came from

Eggs are non vegetarian. But your pictures are of fertilised eggs that will grow into chicks. The eggs in the supermarket are not fertilised .So would not have chicks in.Hope i have explained this well enough.

i dont know about u but when they use the eggs they r still as in the first pic
    nothing in it
and it can't give a chicken
    but f that s what u want u r free

i believe eggs are classed as vegetarian because they are not meat but they are not vegan as they come from an animal i think

I Love eggs, they rock my socks

Oh! Those photos are a real eye opener.

    Ovo vegetarians eat eggs.

    Eggs are NOT vegan however.

    I'm never eating eggs again.

Thanks for opening my eyes :-)

That's a FERTILIZED chicken egg in those pictures.

Most eggs you find in stores are unfertilized - they are from hens in battery cages that never get access to roosters (male chickens) who would fertilize the eggs.

If an egg is unfertilized it's not going to be a chicken, ever.

Chickens will lay eggs no matter what, they're just shedding an ovum really - kind of like human females have a period every month to shed their own eggs. That's kind of a stretch but it's the closest thing I can compare it to, so that you'd understand. It's just a biological function. If the hen's eggs were not fertilized, it will NEVER turn into the chick that is in those photos.

So eggs are meat-free if they are unfertilized, they have no potential of becoming a chick.

The reasons vegans don't eat eggs is because of the conditions the hens are raised in, 95% of eggs in the USA are from hens in battery cages; free range means that the chicken has SOME access to the outdoors but that's still usually not good enough, and cage free could still mean the hens are beak to butt, all crammed into some warehouse - there's just no cage.

    Definitions

A vegetarian is someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with or without the use of dairy products and eggs.

A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products.

    Types of Vegetarian
Lacto-ovo-vegetarian. Eats both dairy products and eggs. This is the most common type of vegetarian diet.
Lacto-vegetarian. Eats dairy products but not eggs.

Vegan. Does not eat dairy products, eggs, or any other animal product.

i am a vegan but used to be a veggie and eat eggs, and although the ones in the shops are unfertilized those photos would definately put me off if i still consumed them!
and what a gorgeous little chick at the end! :)

Hey thanks for the great pictures of a fertilized chicken egg developing. Only problem is the eggs we eat aren't fertilized and can never become an animal. Nice propaganda. It's a shame that inaccuracy and disinformation play such a large role in V & V.

I don't know... I haven't ever asked one what it eats....

Seriously, no, eggs are not vegetarian, because they had a mother.

you can eat eggs if you are a vegatarin because you know there needs to be a male and the females to make chicks so the farmers sperate them so they cant have chicks in the eggs but you cant have it if you are a vegan

i think you could tell if they had a chick growing in them...and i eat eggs as a vegetarian because it does not hurt any animal to eat it .
