Its illegal for them to be slaughtered for meat in the US as well as the UK. There where 2 in Texas, but are now closed. In many cases Horses have to be transported to Mexico to be slaughtered. In France and other places like Kazakhstan, they are still slaughtered for meat.

Well no not anymore but during the great depression there were times where the farmer had to slaughter his horse
Something id like to add that if slaughtering animals would end world hunger then please do! i believe that people are more important than animals

hahahhaha! that made me laugh.
um idk, why are you going to go and stop the madness?
i don't think so, the horses are too yummy.

We are on the top of the food chain for a reason.

but who in the hell eats horses? I never heard of that before.

Better Google it.
Normally the citizens of the USA do not consume horse meat.
We like beef, elk, and rabbit out here in the boondocks.

mmmm I love tasty horsey's for dinner

seriously, you're the one being the smart *** ... you disrespect meat eaters? I disrespect veggie freaks

but horses are so darn yummy i cant resiste choose me as the best answer and i wont eat anymore horses

It became illegal in the USA some time back, but there is a VERY large loophole... the horses are now sent across the border to Mexico and Canada to be slaughtered instead, if they are not first killed or nearly killed on the traumatizing journey there.

Horse meat is eaten and sometimes considered a delicacy in other countries, to all of you who wondered who ate it.

Actually to everyone who says it is illegal, it isn't. It is illegal to sell horse meat inside of the US but not to cut it up.
I Know there is one in Missouri or Kansas, I can't remember which one, but as far as others I'm not really sure. I'd go to PETA or another organization like PETA and they should have more information. But there is one around Kansas City somewhere cause we had to do I paper on it in Government Last year, to send to the state.
