In short educate yourself.

Once you have this information at your disposal you can inform him the vegetarians and vegans can not only be healthy but potentially healthier.

Let him know the reasons you are doing this but back it up with ideal meals you want to eat that include the various food groups.

Also learn to cook for yourself. Making your parents go out of their way can cause resentment.

Make a list of meals you want to eat during the week. Ask them to have these foods around and you'll do all the cooking yourself. Most parents appreciate self reliance. Also make sure you clean up all the dishes and maybe a few of their to boot. Show them that this lifestlye is bettering you as a person.

Finally stick with your principles. You will be challenged many times in your life with moral and health oriented issues. By learning to assert your will know will only serve to help you went some other serious issues will eventitably come up.

Realize you have a support group, a community of individuals that know what you are going through and will give you moral support and information when requested.

I am heartened by your compassionate decision at such a young age. I have a feeling great things are in store for you.

Many Blessings : )

Research and tell him why it is better, from health, environmental, and cruelty perspectives. Make sure that you can follow this diet without help and with factual support and dont be afraid to debate. He should leave you alone on this.

Explain to him why you've become a vegitarian. I support the choice 100% by the way

My dad didn't understand either, untill I made him a garden burger one night without telling him what he was eating! It worked! He started getting garden burgers himself. Gottaluvit!

It's easy if you live on your own and can buy your own food. I tell my mom that I get enough protien, I choose not to contribute to animal cruelty and she'll usually shut up.

Good luck, it's not easy sometimes.

This is a good question. There are a number of substitutes for meats. Beans for example contain proteins which are important in you diet. My suggestion would be to talk to dietitian and find out if turning into a vegetarian is healthy for you.

Yes, you can't let other people make your life choices.

Go vegetarian.

My brother and I are both vegans... A few days ago we went to an anti war protest and while we were there we were handed a little booklet about animal cruelty. Our dad saw it when we came in and emptied out our pockets. (My dad grew up in Texas where all you eat is meat) and that little book with all the gruesome pictures turned him into a vegetarian. I say you find some pictures online (they are super easy to find) and maybe that will help. Good luck

Yes...tell him you cannot stand the idea of eating an animal and you cannot digest it any more.

=)

Well, telling your folks to bug off is probably not the wisest course. Granted, newbie vegetarians and vegans can be a pain in the butt--I know I was--and we have to find a balance. Do your research. Show your dad that a vegetarian diet is quite healthy when done properly. If your dad cares about the environment, tell him about the environmental devastation caused by meat production.

Check out "Living Among Meat Eaters" by Carol J. Adams for advice on how to deal with the people in your life who don't understand. There's also a chapter at the back addressing parents of vegetarian kids.

And I agree you should offer to help cook. If you can get your parents to cook veggie sides and buy you veggie entrees, you can cook or heat up your veggie food, eat it with the sides, and they can eat their meat. If you're old enough to do more complex cooking, offer to cook one meal a week for the family. It doesn't have to be anything complex--pastas, stir-fries, casseroles, soups, and stews are all fairly simple to make. www.vegweb.com has some good recipes.

Good luck!

If you have to ask if you should be a vegetarian - - - - - than you more than likely should not because you haven't really made the personal choice or have the personal determination that it is going to take to stick to such a choice.

Till your willing to stand up and explain your choices nose to nose with your father and stand for personal choices made in an intelligent way that while he may not agree with but at least understand, you will always have problems.

Sorry. Just the way that I see it. Depending upon your age, you very well are not old enough to do such at this time.

This is going to depend a lot on how old you are and what you are willing to do.
I decided to be vegetarian when I was 16. I never expected my mom to do anything special for me. I went to the kitchen and cooked my own stuff, and then when it was dinner time, I put it on my plate and sat down with the family.
Yes, I had to deal with a lot of snide remarks, but I just did it. that is not easy to do. Are you willing to go that route?
Otherwise you have to wait until you are in college.

check out this video after watching this video you will not eat meat, also show this video to your dad

i'm going through the same thing
its hard but eventually he'll understand

My dad doesn't accept it either, and neither does the rest of my family. But who cares, it my choice and I plan to stick with it. It is much healthier and my family has noticed that they are healthier based on the reduced meat.

There are different types of vegetarians:

There are different types of vegetarians, non of which eat meat OR FISH ! Since you did not specify if you have stoped eating fish or not I'll just give you some guidelines on both vegetarianism and veganism.

The vegetarian diet is healthy, especially if you combine it with the organic diet. However this only applies for individuals who do proper research on the diet requirements.

Calcium can be obtained from soy or dairy, while protein can be obtained from legumes and soy. Most people believe that you have to take several diet pills to stay healthy, but this is not true. There are persons who need addition suplements because of health reasons, but the average person can live off of fruits and vegetables.

You have to stick with the foods that work for you and follow the diet pyramid. Because you are increasing your carb intake ie sugar, you must exercise on a regular basis if your metabolism is slow. However you can avoid having to take strenious exercise by using whole grain carbs/brown carbs. These carbs are not refined and are therefore healthier than the alternative white sugar carbs.

There are several types of vegetarians:

Lacto-ovo- vegetarian

When most people think of vegetarians, they think of lacto-ovo-vegetarians. People who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products are lacto-ovo vegetarians (“lacto” comes from the Latin for milk, and “ovo” for egg).
Lacto-vegetarian is used to describe a vegetarian who does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products.

Ovo-vegetarian refers to people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs.

Vegan

Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin. Many vegans also refrain from eating foods that are made using animal products that may not contain animal products in the finished process, such as sugar and some wines. There is some debate as to whether certain foods, such as honey, fit into a vegan diet.

Other diets closely linked to the veggie diet include, but ARE NOT VEGETARIAN/VEGAN:

Pescatarian (also spelled pescetarian)

The word “pescatarian” is occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet.

It is important to pay attention to your diet, so that you can stay healthy. Vegetarianism and veganism is a lifestyle, therefore you have to take the necessary requirements to make sure that you get the adequate dietary supplements in your foods.

These are a list of links you can use to research the lifestyle and diet requirements.

You can get protein from soy and legumes, while you get your carbs from the whole grains. Whole grains ie brown carbs are much better for you than processed grains ie white. Fat is obtained from plant oils.

i think u should not be cause my science teacher said those that are are not healthy cause if u dont eat protein and since ur body is protein ur body starts to eat you and u start to have health problems.................. just try to eat little portion of all nutrients and u will be fine
