Were humans once vegitarians?!
Answers: Does meat cause bowel cancer
A major report published by the World Cancer Research Fund in 1997 recommended we lower our risk of cancer by choosing predominantly plant-based diets rich in a variety of vegetables and fruits, legumes and minimally processed starchy staple foods, and to limit the intake of grilled, cured and smoked meats and fish. These methods of preparing meat produce polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocyclic amines which are carcinogenic (11).
Over 200 studies have revealed that a regular consumption of fruits and vegetables provides significant protection against cancer at many sites. People who consume higher amounts of fruits and vegetables have about one-half the risk of cancer, especially the epithelial cancers (7). The risk of most cancers was 20-50% lower in those with a high versus a low consumption of whole grains (8).
About three dozen plant foods have been identified as possessing cancer-protective properties. These include cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower), umbelliferous vegetables and herbs (carrots, celery, cilantro, caraway, dill, parsley), other fruits and vegetables (citrus, tomatoes, cucumber, grapes, cantaloupe, berries), beans (soybeans), whole grains (brown rice, oats, whole wheat), flaxseed, many nuts, and various seasoning herbs (garlic, scallions, onions, chives, ginger, turmeric, rosemary, thyme, oregano, sage, and basil)(9).
hi this doesnt specify any particular cancer but thought you might find it interesting!
yes until they realized they could eat meat.
No, human teeth are clearly the teeth of omnivores. Additionally our eyes are set in our skulls in a way that is meant to allow us to quickly judge distances. Our eyes are placed more like a predator's eyes (tiger, dog etc..) then a herbivore (horse, cow etc).
So we are made to have a diet of meat and veggies at the same time.
In other animals the appendix is used to digest grass. In humans its dormant now, but it was there for a purpose. This suggests that we once were Herbivores, or Vegitarians. The truth can't be known. As for does meat cause bowel cancer, i doubt it because you dont hear of Carniverous animals like lions getting bowel cancer
Humans have incisors.and canine teeth.
This alone is some biological proof that humans are meant to eat meat and likely always have.
I would contribute a poor lifestyle to bowel cancer more than eating meat, though eating excessive amounts of meat might not help. Though nothing in excess is good for you.
caution: living causes cancer
Too much red meat could be a contributary factor in bowel cancer, along with other lifestyle issues.
As for "were we vegetarians"?
Humans have adapted to local conditions wherever they have settled. Eskimos live in areas with little or no plant life, and so have to eat mostly meat (before the supermarkets made it possible for them to buy veggies!)
Some cultures are vegetarian. Hundreds of millions of Hindus are vegetarian for religious reasons, and they come to no harm.
yes and I don't think so..... I worked for a gastroenterologist for seven and a half years. I have never heard that it does.
Were humans once vegetarians? - well humans have changed. Originally humans did not wear clothes, but we do now. I think we ate meat, because we did not have the great choices we do today.
Time changes everything. I hope we can change for the better.
Does meat cause bowel cancer? I think eating meat causes many diseases, but that's something you should research yourself.
All I know is I see a lot of overweight and sick people. And something is making them that way! -
No.
100% no.
It was the fact that our ancestors ate meat that allowed us to evolve to the point we are currently at.
MEAT DOES NOT CAUSE BOWEL CANCER.
Chared meat... Burnt meat is coming to be known to be bad and might increase your risk of cancer but meat in and of itself is not unhealthy.
A burger CAN be healthy if you choose good meat to begin with and cook it in a healthy way...
Chicken is healthy as long as you don't eat the skin...
Pork is NOW healthy due to the way they are raised... 100 years ago they were raised ONLY for fat and were fed garbage, LITERALLY garbage, and thererfore were infested with all sorts of parisites... But MODERN pork is raised to be lean, healthy, and modern sanitary standards guarentee that the meat will be bug-free. (How it is handled after the pork leaves the slaughter house is what can allow it to get you sick)
People that say that humans are not designed to eat meat are, for lack of a less blunt term, ignorant.
Ignorant of science, biology, and willfully closing their eyes to reality.
NOW A DAYS is it possible to get total nutrition without eating meat? Yes. With the wide variety of foods from all over the globe it is 100% possible to have a flavorfull and varried diet without any animal protine...
Would I want to live that life style?
No. I like meat.
I am about as worried that my meat eating will kill me as I am about getting hit by a bus while walking down the street.
Can it happen? Sure... anything is possible. Is it likely? No, it is not...
As long as you eat a BALANCED diet that includes meat and live an overall healthy lifestyle then you will be fine.
used to be humans didnt live long enough to get cancer.. and we didnt know what cancer was even if they did...
humans - and apes ALWAYS ate meat.. bugs.. etc..
they ate more meat after discovering FIRE - since cooked meat is easier to chew...
no humans were NEVER vegetarians
HOWEVER we do currently eat more meat than we should and pump our food animals full with chemicals and growth hormones and house them in cruel conditions..
The earliest hominids were fruit pickers or "fruitarians". Somewhere along the long evolutionary development, they started eating scavenged meat, meaning meat left over from the kill of predators probably from sheer hunger. No one really knows at what specific point in time did men start eating meat regularly or who was the first group of hominids who did so. But it is theorized that early man's rapid brain development started around the time when he ate meat
Yes meat CAN cause colon cancer but is is not the only cause.
humans ate whatever it took to survive...in bountyful climates with lots of fruit and veg then yes their diet would primarily have been this..but in harsh environments meat would be the best source of energy and the best means of storing fat....we have always been omnivore...meaning we can and always have been able to digest meat and veg
I have actually seen original research which does seem to suggest that meat consumption, particularly processed or red meat can increase the risks of cancer, during the course of my biology degree. With science, nothing is ever concrete, but there is some compelling evidence, so much that the WCRF (world cancer research fund) recommends strict limits on these types of foods.
I do believe that many people throughout history were vegetarian, but not by choice. They were simply too poor to acquire meat products. I can always remember watching Tony Robinson's' The Worst Jobs In History, were he was shown how to create a worm stew, as during the period, worms were the only source of meat available to poor people. During prehistorical periods, people would have been so food deprived that they would have eaten anything they could get their hands on. Thankfully, in this country at this time, we are able to find plentiful food and make choices based on our health and ethical considerations

Meat CAN cause cancers.
No, our teeth are for chewing meat.
if we were meant to eat only meat, we wouldnt have canine teeth.
that is what they say
