Does chocolate cause acne?!

Question: I think so. My skin is usually clear but I broke out over Easter. I swear it's all that chocolate! So I'm avoiding it now...

Can chocolate give you bad skin?

Thanks

No, chocolate cannot give you bad skin. But that said, check the kind of chocolate that you're eating and the quantity.

Stick to only good quality dark chocolate that has NO vegetable oil added on the ingredient listing (if you ever see vegetable oil on a chocolate ingredient list, you're eating crap and should throw it out immediately). Pure dark chocolate is the 'cleanest' choice and you tend to be satisfied with much less so therefore you ingest less sugar (which will contribute to a breakout) and fat (because cacao is naturally high in fat. A little is fine but you can have too much of a good thing).

Dairy clogs. Take note of your skin after a big cheese week or a milkshake or dairy smoothie week or icecream week. Also a milk chocolate week. Yep. Dairy will clog your skin up.

Don't give chocolate up! Just eat the good 70%cocoa type. Mmmm chocolate.....

It can if you eat way to much of it.You will get a zit or two and sometimes you can have major breakouts. Just limit yourself when it comes to eating chocolate.

no it cant...well for most ppl there is a certain food (a special food) that makes ppl brake out...like maybe its chocolate for you,...nd peanuts for me....u just gotta stay away from those foods that you've been eating which have given you acne before...but just limit your self like the other person said (sorry i forgot the users name) lol

It all depends on your skins sensitivity to the ingredients in it. Some people can eat a large amount of chocolate daily and never experience any reaction, while others just eating a few bites will experience mild to sever breakouts. Hope this helps.

I dont now exactly but I find that when I eat chocholate, i do tend to break out, but i do eat chocolate everyday and when i eat loads thats when i get them.

Though some people report their acne worsens after eating certain foods, there is no scientific evidence showing that chocolate -- or any other food for that matter -- directly causes or worsens acne. Instead, acne is caused when hormonal changes -- most often during puberty -- cause oil glands underneath the skin's surface to produce excess oil. In addition, skin cells lining hair follicles shed more rapidly during puberty, and when mixed with oil, clog the openings of follicles. A normal skin bacteria can multiply in the follicle and produce irritation, inflammation and the various types of skin lesions associated with acne.

But adults beware, warns Dr. Jeffrey Travers, chairman and professor of dermatology at the IU School of Medicine. Certain substances in chocolate can affect blood vessels, which can aggravate adult type acne, known as rosacea. Though the exact cause of rosacea is unknown, some scientists think genetic or environmental factors cause blood vessels to swell, which then produces flushing and facial bumps associated with rosacea.

The bottom line: chocolate doesn't directly affect teen acne but may contain substances that can trigger flare-ups of rosacea in adults. Something to consider when you're enjoying a piece of holiday fudge.

hi hollywood hope this helps! :)

I think yes. When I gave up chocoalte/junk food for Lent, my skin never looked more beautiful. Now its imperfect, again. xl

No

HEY GUYS...TWEETY JJ IS TROLLING! SHE COPIED FLUFFYCAT'S ANSWER! THE B*TCH

it can

I've never heard that it does

Chocolate does NOT cause acne, but it does cause "***-ne" wherein your *** gets much, much bigger than it would ordinarily be.

Seriously, though, chocolate contains theobromine, which increases circulation. Thereby chocolate can actually be good for your skin, not bad. I'd say the breakout is more likely stress related from a big family holiday.

yes i too believe that if u eat lots of them u get acne ..
so dont stop but cut down the propotion thats all :)

I heard it does. I dont eat eat much though

No.. you get acne from stress, genetics, and dirt in your pours.

it depends.. perhaps you're allergic to it.

for example: I'm allergic to soy products. I broke out when I started eating tofu so I try to stay away from soy products, sometimes I can't though.

so yes, it possible. if it makes you break out then stay away from it.
