The reason i want to be a veg. is because i can't stand hearing all this about animal abuse and animal slaughter and it just makes me sick but most of all I am like lossing taste in meat already and it taste dulll and plain but vegs taste nice and crispy so WHAT DO I TELL MY GRANDMA HOW DO I TELL HER I WANT TO BECOME A VEG. PLEASE HELP????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just tell her you want to be a vegetarian and explain why. if you don't already know how to cook, you're old enough to learn. Offer to help with the cooking so that she doesn't feel like she has to prepare something special just for you.
Do some research into vegetarian nutrition. Vegetarian does not mean you just eat veggies. You need fruits, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds also to have a balanced plant-based diet. A good book for veg nutrition is "The New Becoming Vegetarian" by Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina. If your grandma has concerns about whether vegetarianism is healthy, you'll need to know how to answer them.
You might also want to read up on milk and egg production. Not the happy situation you might think it is. Just saying...
How about, "Grandma, I want to become a vegetarian." I'm sure it won't be a big deal... she can still eat meat.
explain to her why your becoming a vegitatian and hopefully she understands. If not then you are pretty much on your own for preparing food but once she sees how dedicated you are maybe she will change her mind and support you
Just say. "Hey grandma i dont like the tought of all of those cows being slaughtered and chickens being killed and shot and it would make me sick if i thought i was eating that so can i just eat veggies you can still make meat for yourself grandma!"
It should definitly work. IF I WAS A VEGGITERIAN my grandma would say sure. Good luck!
If she's like mine, she'll still prepare meat for you at first even when it remains on the plate. Eventually though, she'll start accepting that this isn't "just a phase" and will make sure you get your protein in other ways.
It can be difficult when someone like your grandmother doesn't understand and thinks what you're doing is silly or unhealthy.....Then again, she could surprise you and end up actually enjoying preparing special meals from vegetarian recipes for you.
By the way, I applaud your decision and admire you for taking a stand!
Good for you! I’m a vegetarian but still feel guilty about consuming dairy products because the cows and broiler hens suffer too. When either of them can no longer produce a product, they are no longer valuable and sent to slaughter. I’ve been a vegetarian for almost 11 years and think about this daily. One day I want to become vegan. Good luck to you. Don’t be afraid to tell your grandma how you feel, it’s your life isn’t? Do what you want and stand up for what you think is right. My grandma isn’t happy about it either…. I’m the only vegetarian in my family. Check out my website.... it offers a ton of information and ways you can help animals!
