Is this unhealthy to have for lunch almost every day?!

Question: I take a sweet potato (medium to large) and I put it in the microwave til its soft. I cut it lengthwise and scoop out most of the potato from its skin. Then I mash up the potato i scooped out with low cal miracle whip and then i put it back in the skins. i sprinkle it with a little chili powder and garnish with dried parsley. i eat the 2 halves for lunch

is it ok to have for lunch?? is there anything i could use as a healthier replacement for the miracle whip or... lol

As long as your diet is balanced, than splurging on the occasional sweet potato is fine. You don't mention what your other meals throughout the day are, but I would say, if they are more varied than a sweet potato lunch is not going to kill you. A lot of kids eat far worse than that everyday. I cringe at what I used to eat for lunch in middle school(basically french fries everyday, don't ask me how a school could get away with allowing students to buy double orders of fries as a meal). I also knew kids that would eat candy and soda as a lunch. Thank God my awareness of nutrition has grown since my middle/high school days.

its healthy but try to balance out your meal bring some milk and fruits and bread to teh meal, and instead of miracle whip you could use Soyazoo- a healthier brand of whipped cream sold at Whole Foods

Too much beta-carotene (which sweet potaotes, carrots, pumpkin/squash, etc. contain) can turn your skin yellow or orange if you eat too much of it.

I would go with more than that especially since a sweet potato can carry more starch and less nutrients than a regular potato depending on the kind of potato and what you do with the both of them really, is what i mean't to say. Maybe a side salad with it and a sandwich of your choice would be better, things in moderation are the best really. If you don't eat it every day than that's fine as long as you eat more to go along with it, it's not like a big arguement or anythings going to cause harm. Maybe cream cheese, cinnamon, and nutmeg for like a sweet lunch once in a while would work if you want to change it, maybe even marshmallow fluff, you could try soy products for a miracle whip replacement or if you want it healthier then just don't use it at all since an overload can make the sweet potato unhealthy. But that doesn't make everything unhealthy as long as you have a balanced diet and you exercise which of none you've mentioned.

First off, I think you need a source of protein, you might not be getting anything but carbs from a sweet potato. I would try a lowfat, unflavored yogurt, maybe sprinkle some nuts for protein.

I usually eat a sweet potato with a very small amount of I Can't Believe Its Not Butter and cinnamon.

I also have a recipe for smashed sweet pototoes where it calls for chicken broth to mash them. I tried to find it but no luck.

Happy eating!

It's unnatural to eat the same thing every day. If your digestive system gets used to it and one day you vary... plan on spending the day in the bathroom!!!!!!!! Forget the substitute for mayo... think of sub for sweet potato!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi.
I think that is healthy, but maybe have something with that, not just carbs. Even though I do love carbs.

I hope this helps!!!! =D

Sweet potato is a superfood, packed with lots of nutrients. As long as you are eating variety and more protein in your other meals, this is fine.

it is not bad!! but u now wat they say too much of anything is bad for you.

you could try adding something like phillidelphia cheese to it .. thats healtyh and tastes GORGEOUS!!

Sweet potatoes are great for you-miracle whip is not! Perhaps you could make the same thing, only substitute some fresh, REAL yogurt (FAGE brand is great, or better yet, homemade yogurt) You could mix it with some agave nectar or honey, or a little real maple syrup for a sweet treat. Another good way to eat sweet potato, is to roast it with a little olive oil and sea salt until its crispy on the outside, but still nice and tender inside-about 40 minutes in a 375 degree oven is good for a potato cut into chunks. Stir it every 15 minutes or so. If you lose the nasty miracle whip (which is full of artificial garbage and genetically modified stuff, and genetically modified high fructose corn syrup, as well as preservative. If it will preserve an ingredient, it will preserve your body tissues-BUT not in a good way. Its toxic garbage that has no nutritional value. Here are the ingredients.

Kraft? Miracle Whip Dressing
F01-0400303-1100
Miracle Whip?

7/16 oz packet Ingredients: Water, soybean oil, vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, modified food starch, eggs, salt, mustard flour, artificial color, potassium sorbate as a preservative, paprika, spice, natural flavor, dried garlic.

You can make all sorts of yummy substitutes with good yogurt. If you make it homemade, try to use organic milk-not commercial milk which is full of growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids, and other stuff thats not good for you.

Although too much beta carotene WILL turn your skin yellow, it is NOT harmful. It is only a cosmetic issue, and you'd have to eat bags and bags of carrots to get there.

OK, who thumbed me down and why? Because I said beta carotene turns your skin yellow? It's a medical fact, go look it up. Or did you thumb me down because I said it's not harmful? That's a medical fact too, go look it up, lazy moron.

(I'm not addressing you, asker, just the unknown person who thumbed me down)

It sounds yummy (except for the “low cal miracle whip” – I don’t know what it is, but it sounds hideous)
