What would really help you?!
It will be called vegamour.
I have basic idea of what to have on the website. but tell me what information would really help you. and give me reasons why you would go to eht website repeatly.
Let the creativity follow.

Ha, I just went out and copyrighted Vegamour. You owe me millions.
In all seriousness, if you had a matrix of vegetarian/vegan products throughout the US/elsewhere of where to get these products while aligning them with recipes and local support groups, I think you would find quite a return market.
EDIT - Don't sweat the db stuff, you are just not looking in the right places. Get your architecture done up front and you can work with someone to create whats called a "data diagram" or "Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD)" that any dumbassed db can work from. Then post the needs on craigslist or at your local computer or community college. There is always some starving college student who is really good with db's there and would be willing to work for cheap.
@@ I can solve the db problem for you. How much capital are you looking at? Email me...
SEE!!!! I TOLD YA! Slim Whitman is your man......lol
SLIM-- No offence on the "dumbasssed db" comment!
I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I love trying the recipes. Also if you could give information about what vegan products are good. I love a lot of soy "meat" like boca burgers and such but I've come across some equally awful sausage-y products. So basically recipes and product recommendations.
I love sites that have clinical info on them.. something i always look out for is recipes that i can use.. (that always makes me go back) now if you want like people to really change their lives i would put video of slaughter houses on there.. but PLEASE make sure that is not the first thing i see on a page.. i also look for a lot of info on being preggy and veggie as i call it.. LOL.. cuz I'm looking to have another child soon.. Shirts are always good ideas.. they rock.. maybe some statistics about how many animals are slaughtered everyday for human consumption... (like one of those running totals you see everywhere) hmm.. that's all i can really think of right now..
EDIT: ohh and free stuff.. i LOVE free stuff.. and maybe get with a company and see if they will let you e-mail people coupons.. i love coupons too.. and i thought what might be really cool too is a running ticker to see how many people are dying of "meat-related" illnesses.. like heat attacks, and junk like that.. then maybe you could put on the other side like a count of how many animals have been saved by veggies..
vegamour for kids. how to convince your friends in kindergarten to become vegetarian..what to say to non-veg mums politely...strategies to prevent junk food and sugar distribution in the classroom!
As far as database issues for web I opt for using open sourced PHP/MYSQL packages, if you want Open Sourced Commerce, look at OSCOMMERCE, and for a portal type application I recommend E107. Both are fair easy to build and configure on most hosted providers.
You can at that point customize code to fit specific needs, but generally is saves you a lot of the footwork. I'm not a vegan, but wujoo is on my quick list and figured I'd contribute to the thread from my web 12 years of web development and administration experience.
wujoo, i know a bit about mysql, building db's and tables, but as far as DBA design stuff, my experiences tend toward the admin side of the house, not the development.
Some great ideas so far! Oh, and I *love* the name of it!
I really hate having to sift through mountains of recipes on websites - especially ones that are crap! If you have a recipe section, I would make sure it is minimal and organised well. And if possible, have the option to add reviews/recommendations from people who have tried it.
A nutrition section would be useful to a lot of people. Something simple with maybe a CHART explaining what veg*n food are high in all those things that meat eaters think we're missing out on (protein, iron, calcium). To me, all that stuff is really basic and old news, but I think it's something a lot of people starting out would like to refer to. I don't know if anyone else has had problems, but I've found tons of paragraphs on the net with babble on what's good for you, but a chart would just make it so much easier to read.
Somewhere people can toss around ideas about products or talk about what cruelty free brands are available - like cleaning products, toiletries etc. If this were to be International, that'd help a lot too. It doesn't necessarily need to be set up like a forum though...
A links section for organisations people can donate to or sign petitions or contact to volunteer at! Preferrably not big places like PETA, but rather small, local shelters and things like that. Places where your donations are actually appreciated and used wisely! You could even take donations on the site for a monthy fundraiser of some sort...?

As for reasons I'd visit the website repeatedly (which I'm not sure anyone has addressed yet):
*A simple, user-friendly layout.
*Useful information that is not only well organised & researched, but can be "searched" for on the website.
*Proven recipe ideas / a recipe section that I can contribute to, as a member of the website.
*A website that encourages people to do positive things for animals, rather than just boycotting products.
*A website that uses compassion as a tool, rather than scare tactics and graphic imagery. [We shouldn't have to see that stuff to care about our cause.] And if there's graphic images, they should contain a warning.
