On atkins, is hummus okay to eat with the veggies? is hummus good to eat in general?!

Question: ONLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE ATKINS, OR EVEN SOUTH BEACH PLEASE.

Answers: ONLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE ATKINS, OR EVEN SOUTH BEACH PLEASE.

As long as you check the carb content for added sugar. Some hummus is basically just chickpeas and sesame paste, and that is fine in moderation (contains lots of dietary fiber). Carrots are high in sugar, though, and probably not a good dipper for atkins.

yes, it's just beans. no carbs at all.

Hummus is chickpeas (garbanzo beans). They are loaded with protein, and good for you. Everything in moderation, of course... even the healthy stuff.

(Please don't compare South Beach to Atkins. Although South Beach teaches how to eat healthy carbs in healthy portions, it's actually not labeled as "low carb". Although compared to someone on a monitoried low carb diet, the amounts of carbs consumed on South Beach is generally lower. Atkins is a high fat, low carb diet. South Beach is low fat, healthy carbs in healthy portions.)

You posted this in the vegetarian/vegan section.

If you actually pulled off the Atkin's diet as a vegetarian, I will stand up and salute you. That is thinking waaaay outside the box.

BTW... hummus, or any bean, is not low carb. Beans do have a lot of protein, but they also have a lot of carbs.

A cup of hummus has 12g of protein... and almost 50g of carbs.

Mmmmm... delicious carbs.

I've never done either of those idiotic diets, but I'll answer anyway. Hummus rocks, man! Okay, you probably should not eat too much of it, because it does have a fair amount of fat, but it makes a great dip for veggies. IAnd according to a nutritional website I Googled, it's a pretty good source of protein and iron.

So enjoy your hummus, but in moderation.
