Raw Veganism, anyone?!

Question: I was taken to a raw vegan convention led by Dr. Brian Clement himself. If anyone else thinks some, or most, of his ideas are completely ludacris, then I'm glad I'm not alone. He said, to a room full of adults, "How can you call yourselves Christians if you're feeding your children poison?". I'm sorry, but that's completely disrespectful and downright rude.

However, my mother has become an avid "raw foodie". I'd like to hear your opinions on the matter, and if there are any cynics of this lifestyle please feel free to share your thoughts.

P.S. I am in no way belittling this eating habit. I think it's very healthy to do, but I'm curious as to what you think.

I think Bryan Clement can be bold, and that can upset some people (like you). Nevertheless, he is expressing his beliefs honestly. He is trying to wake people up to what he believes, and he is very successful in doing so (if he has alienated you, that's too bad. He did manage to convince your mom, and you should let her be... )
Raw veganism is a rather popular subculture of vegetarianism right now. People like Madonna and Woody Harrel have said that they are raw vegans.
Bryan Clement heads a "spa" or "health institute" to which many people go when they have not been able to cure what ails them (cancer and other life-threatening illnesses). He has received many testimonials from people who have felt that they had a positive benefit from their stay at Hippocrates Institute (Hippocrates Institute was actually founded in the 1960s by Dr. Ann Wigmore. When she died in a fire in the early 1990s, Clement began his program, based on Ann Wigmore's ideas)

If your mom has embraced the raw food diet, and has gotten herself a good juicer and a dehydrator, why don't you support her and help her find recipes she can make with her new equipment (I make really delicious raw food crackers and cheeze with my dehydrator, in addition to burgers, and lots of other things.) I use my Champion juicer almost daily for juices, and for making pates which I can use as ingredients for sauces or else as main dish ingredients.

I am a Christian. I read the Bible. In Genesis, it says that God told Adam and Eve, when he was ejecting them from the Garden of Eden, that they could eat of the herbs of the field.
It works for me, if I understand that to mean vegetables and fruit.
God did not say anything about cooking at that point. As a matter of fact, I can find no place in the Bible where God says I MUST cook my food.

I really do not get why this should come down to a religious issue at all. God offered us a basic diet. We tinkered with it. God did not say we could not do so, but neither did he say that we had to.

this type of eating habit is very healthy but this speaker was disrespecting ppl by saying that

I read a book called "Fit for Life" it's about eating only raw food. I did it for three weeks. I sure wanted something cooked after the three weeks. But I lost 5 pounds. So now I try to do it at least one week out of the month.

Some people have certain digestive problems and the last thing they dare put into their stomachs is raw foods - their system can't break it down or use it.

I would like to eat more raw foods and, in fact, I bought a huge book called "The Complete Guide to Raw Foods" but it seems really complicated to me. All the sprouting, soaking, hard to find raw ingredients, dehydrating, etc. is a little intimidating to me. So I rarely eat a raw meal, but it's a goal for me in the future.

I'm pretty happy as an above 115 deg. vegan right now! :0)

i think parents are, indeed, poisoning their kids. i didn't know until i learned better. i try to avoid all meat except sea fish like salmon. processed food and the big-three meats raised on huge doses of antibiotics and hormones have created a very fat and unhealthy population. forget about the fda, it is every man, woman an child for themselves.

antibiotics and hormones makes animals grow faster and bigger. more profit. i did not know until much research that cooking does not destroy the antibiotics and hormones. it is just passed on into you, and your children.

the antibiotics and hormones also stimulate the appetite and the results are everywhere you look. big, heavy and hungry people with an epidemic of health problems.

and still i find very few people know this.

well my dad is a vegan, im a vegitarian, and my dads good friend is a "raw foodie" lol. But i found that i did alot worse in my sports when i tried to be raw so thats y i switch back to vegitarian becuase i needed the protien and everything even though beans and thing are good i still improved again when i had regular food but i think the raw food is completly ......difficult to do and if you can afford buying all that health food and you have the time and energy to do it and do it right without starving and becoming sick then i think its great and healthy

You seem to have already formed your opinion. Are you actually interested in information or are you just here to hopefully find people to back up your disdain for the diet?

Raw foodism is great. I feel my best when I'm eating raw. I'm not religious so I don't care about the christianity remark.

"How can you call yourselves Christians if you're feeding your children poison?"

Well it may be boarding on rude but at least it would get the message across and that is what these guys are aiming for – to shock you into the reality of the situation.

I have been to a couple of raw talks and the presenters have been very full-on fanatical and have said similar things. At the time I thought their comments were a little bit over-the-top but it certainly helped the messages hit home and sink in.

Sometimes the truth hurts, most parents (Christian and Non-Christian) are feeding their children utter crap – often life threatening ingredients like aspartame - a toxic sweetener in soda.

These guys are really NOT meaning to be rude; they are just extremely passionate about raw vegan and simply want to wake & shake people up.

I am following the raw vegan lifestyle and I love it.

It has cured several ailments (one of them life-threatening) and reversed the threat of diabetics

My energy levels are the best they have ever been, I have lost weight, toned up and everyone keeps telling me how good I look - glowing skin, shiny hair etc…

There are loads of cynics around (especially those who don’t know much about it and have never tried it) but to me, it is the very best thing I have ever done for my health.

.

Sometimes it takes Profound Strong worded statements like he makes to trigger change in people. I agree with him, but tend to be much milder in my way of sharing these ideas.
I recently heard Paul Nisson (also from Hippocrates Institute) he is not such harsh speaker, but the facts remain the same. We as parents are responsible for what we and our children eat, what is fed into their sweet minds, how they are treated in this world. If not the parents then who will take care of them? We can not get around the facts that what is currently being sold as our foods sources is horribly tainted & much of it on purpose.

I am very pro plant based diet, raw is a interesting variation.
I do a 85%-15% Raw to Cooked Vegan Diet with days of 100% Raw thrown in. I am healthier than I ever was before I started this better diet.

Slainté (to your health)
