Is there really alcohol that's not vegan?

Eek. I had no idea. Checked the lists and all my favorites are vegan :) whew.

An extensive list of vegetarian and vegan wine can now be found at Vegan Wine Guide. A few online retailers of vegan wine can be found here. ...

I thought all alcohol is vegan.
If you are looking for something that is more pure and distilled you need to be drinking spirits.

Wow I bet most vegans don't even think about making sure alcohol is vegan so good for you for wanting to check, cause yes some alcohol is not vegan, I think for one Bailey's Irish Cream is not.

But anyway I am 29 yrs old and never had a sip of anything with alcohol, not even wine. I just don't want it in my body. So I was wondering why if u are doing something so great for your body and health by being vegan why would u want to to put alcohol in to your body? I think u'd feel much healthier with out it.

Hi
I think that you should avoid alcohol if you can, because you are vegan and being vegan is all about health. Take care of your body, not just the animals. I hope you know what I mean

This site is excellent:

For those who have no idea why some alcohols are not vegan: in order to improve a wine's clarity it usually undergoes a process called fining.

Fining agents that are used in the production of wine include:
bentonite, gelatine, casein, chitosan, enolophin/kieselsol,
polyclar, egg albumen, isinglass, carbon, sparkolloid

Of these, the following are derived from animal products:

Gelatine - 100% animal derived gelatine. Produced from cooking / controlled partial hydrolysis of fibrous insoluble protein collagen found in bone, tendons, skin and connective tissue.

Albumen - egg whites, usually dried or frozen.

Casein - sodium or potassium caseinate which is the primary protein in milk. Both are obtained through the precipitating action of acid on milk.

Isinglass - made up of collagen fibres derived from the air bladders of certain fish, usually the swim bladder of the sturgeon.

Chitosan - derived from the shells of shellfish and crustaceans.

I love when this question comes up because there are always people who assume it's some kind of joke and/or answer confidently that all alcohol is vegan. Why comment when you have no idea what you're talking about?

Anyway, someone posted the link to tastebetter.com's three lists for beer, wine and liquor. They are the most complete I have found.

Just as an aside for anyone who thinks it's ludicrous to worry about vegan alcohol, try googling prunelle. It's. Made. From. Meat.

well this question just tops it off for me.

OK, that confirms it for me, vegans are nuts!
