Why do people still eat meat and wear fur in 2008?!
Answers: I know people have seen the horrible photos of the lives of chickens, cows and pigs on factory farms. They must know these animals suffer! And fur- caged outdoors winter and summer, no shelter, little food and water, then anally electrocuted to have their fur ripped from their bodies. How can people justify what they do??
I am a vegan, and back around Christmas my family and I went to an exclusive restaurant for a reunion. We witnessed a couple who verbally abused and chastised a woman who was wearing what looked like a fox fur coat. They were condemning her and her partner, and making rude vulgar barking noises and pinching at her coat. The restaurant management broke up the ruckus and seated the couple far away from the woman wearing the fur coat. My family was seated at the next table to the verbally abusive couple. Can you imagine my shock when that couple ordered rare steaks, baked potato with sour cream, butter and bacon, and shrimp salads! After publicly condemning someone for wearing a fur coat.
My attitude is that the fur is not something I would wear, since I am vegan. But to me, the fur is not as bad as eating steak, bacon and shrimp. The fur kills several animals once, and the coat will be worn for an entire lifetime. But steak, bacon and shrimp eaters will probably go on eating many helpings of meat in their lifetimes.
I think it is because PETA and other rights groups are not really trying to find better ways to reach out to people and change their minds, other than the horribly explicit videos and the calendars of nude botox injected starlets. There is a wise saying: “The very definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.”
because meat taste good and fur feels nice.
I know. It sucks. I would never wear fur, and I feel bad about eating meat, because of the inhumane conditions. I wish I had the option of buying all free range, cruelty free meat, but I don't. Hopefully I will someday, as I would pay extra for it, but I can't stop eating meat. I really really like it.
Hypocrisy (or being a hypocrite) is the act of opposing to a belief or behaviour while holding the same beliefs or behaviours at the same time.
It is hypocrisy to pass an adverse judgment on someone who wears fur or leather, and then talk about liking meat, eggs, fish and cheese.
lady mala you have been watching far too many peta videos...these are sadly false to make you think the worst is happening to every animal...you wouldnt beleive a video that showed cows with smiles being magically turned into meat???? so why beleive this crap???
not ever animal is mistreated....deal with it.
two reasons
#1 diet is the hardest thing for human nature to control.. it is very hard to resist eating something you WANT to eat.. many people are just not willing to give up something they want to eat
#2 ,.. the propaganda by the beef industry that for years has lied to us telling us we NEED meat for a healthy diet.. people are starting to figure out the truth, but many are stuck in the "old-school" delusion that meat is good for us and we need it..
that's the two basic reasons..
okay, just thought of #3.. it is VERY easy to "disassociate" the tasty burger on your plate from an actual living, breathing cow that lived a miserable life before it was torturously killed.. it's easy not to think about it.. That's one reason I became veg.. I loved animals so much.. I realized it was a BIT hypocritical of me to enjoy eating meat that someone ELSE killed for me, and I didn't have to watch.. when I wouldn't have the heart/guts/stomach to slaughter an animal myself so I could eat it..
They can't justify it! People are stuck in their ways and refuse to listen to vegetarians and those who campaign against fur wearing, the very people who just want to make the world a better place! I think it's truly sad.
humans eating and wearing animal skin/fur has been going on since the beginning of time. it's natural for humans to eat animals. just the way it is.
BUT
i believe the ways animals are treated on some farms is very very wrong. buying from organic farms and knowing the animals are treated humanely should be the only way to go. as for the fur...i firmly believe no animal should die simply for the use of it's skin. like fox, mink, etc.
the world is a sick place and sadly it's probably never going to end. :(
iChris is right. And plus it's really REALLY hard to stay vegetarian. I'm a pescetarian, starting today, and my friend had a birthday party and I couldn't eat ice cream (milk in it), chips (trans fat), cake (milk and eggs), or pizza (milk and trans fat)! It's hard! That's how I explain the meat thing.
For the fur thing, many people HAVE stopped wearing fur.
It's the cycle of life. Population control.
Protein from animals provides our bodies with the amino acids we need. Granted, if we were to combine certain vegetables and legumes (black beans and corn) this need would be fulfilled because they act as complimentary amino acids. But what about B12?
It's our responsibilty as consumers to see to it that we purchase from farms that practice humane methods before and after slaughter.
A great lesson can be learned form the Native American's. They completly utilized their resources, using every bit of an animal for food, shelter, and protection. This so as not to have wasted a life.
Today fur is a fashion statement, and until we as a people stop obsessing over glamour, hollywood, and the next big thing, we are stuck with rabbit feet earrings, snake skin purses, and see-through pumps made from the heads of innocent baby seals.
