Healthy Weight: Was I wrong in thinking this.?!

Question: This is still all new to me.

When I think of Vegetarians I think of someone who is just the right weight for their body frame, or just a little underweight but still very healthy.

I knew this girl and she said she's a vegetarian, and had been for years, but I didnt believe her for she was overweight.

It's really easy for vegetarians to be unhealthy, however being overweight is not necessarily mean she has an unhealthy diet. Some people are just more prone to gaining weight easier than others, even if they eat the perfect diet. But anyway the only thing vegetarians can't eat is meat. They can still eat chocolate, potatoe chips, pies, cakes, cookies, etc. you name it.

Only vegans dont eat eggs, milk, etc. Vegetarians can ;) Report It

  • You get people in all shapes & sizes, omnivores & vegetarians/vegans. I've been vegan for nearly 2 years now & weight exactly the same (more or less) than I did when I was omni. I'm a bit overweight myself, but not morbidly so.
There's plenty of unhealthy vegetarian/vegan food to overindulge yourself with!

There are very unhealthy vegetarian diets, and there are very healthy non-vegetarian diets. It all depends. Plus, you even get vegan bodybuilders from time to time!

Vegetarianism is a way of life, not a diet. There was a similar question yesterday on here, and I mentioned how I was 30 lbs heavier years ago and yes, I was a vegetarian then. It's all about calorie intake, excersize and lifestyle, not because of being a vegetarian. There are plenty of veggies out there who are overweight.

Choosing to cut out meat does not mean one eats fruits and veggies, there is a TON of junk food that is not meat, of course ;)

well i don't think you were wrong in thinking this but its really just stereotypical. As a vegetarian your only choices of food are fruits , vegetables , some people eat dairy , and junk foods so really not all of us are the healthiest as vegetarians.

Weight problems (generally speaking) are due to an imbalance. Not eating meat means having to eat something else for protien and a lot of sources can be high in fat. Also, vegetarians tend to eat more carbohydrates.

So yes, you were wrong to think that vegetarian automatically means the right weight or underweight.
