Is it true that according to the Bible, before the Great Flood and Noah's Ark that people didn't eat meat?!
"Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things."
~Genesis 9:2
I don't know if I'm interpreting this right, but that sounds like God only gave men permission to eat animals AFTER the flood. I've looked all through Genesis, and I haven't been able to find anything that mentions people eating meat specifically. Only seed-bearing plants and the like. Abel had sheep, but they could have been just for wool, right? And people had dominion over all animals, but that doesn't necesarily mean that they ate them.
Answers: "And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

From what I've heard, yes. And then afterwards, God gave permission for man to eat meat.

Perhaps so, but since science has proved that we evolved from apelike ancestors, I would not give much credence to the Bible for either supporting vegetarianism or meatarianism.
I have to agree with Take Me Out to the BallGame: this place is not a religious forum. Christians have a very insular view of existence (it's all about humans, earth, etc), even though there is nothing special about the earth, the solar system or human beings. We were never 'given dominion' over anything or anyone.
Well Abel was a shepherd, so what were the sheep for?
You will most probably get a lot of biased answers posting this in the Vegetarian & Vegan category. You should try posting this in the Religion / Theology section, as I imagine there would be a lot of people who actually study the Bible and have a more in-depth (and varied) knowledge of such matters. I have read many different interpretations of the Creation story and the real meaning behind man's 'dominion' over all living creatures. Some theologians have interpreted this as instruction for mankind to be responsible for the creatures, to care for them, etc, however, some take Genesis literally and believe that this 'dominion' allows us to do whatever we please.
All you're going to hear is conjecture, as it's the Bible, nobody really knows what it's real meaning or intention is!
If you read Genesis 2 and Genesis 3, you have your answer. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Even were given all the fruit of the trees. When they were ejected from the Garden of Eden, they were given all the herbs of the field to eat.
Man has been eating meat since Adam and Eve sinned.
Before then all animal were just pets and plant eaters.
After they sinned animal teeth became sharp. You know animals that we know as being carnivores use to be plant eaters. In order to have eat you know something has to die.
Before then Nothing died.
Sinned changed The way God had intended for the world to be. Good question.
Surely the question should be………...is anything in the Bible actually true.
People decipher the scriptures to suit their own means and ends – so you get five totally different answers to the same scripture.
Your Professor sounds like a wombat (polite term for effing idiot) – I can’t believe supposedly educated people still believe in hell.
.
Yes. That is what is told in that fictional tale. Please keep the religious questions in the religion and/or myth & folklore sections. We like to keep things as factual as possible here.
