Any vegans that can answer?!

Question: I'm not thinking about going vegan to lose weight. But I was wondering if it does cause weight loss if you go completely vegan from a regular meat eatting diet.

It depends if you gradually enter the diet.

I would recommend becoming vegetarian then ease into the vegan diet. (this is what I did)

If you are an omnivore and completely go into the vegan diet you may lose weight, because your body is consuming completely natural substances. (The chemicals in a lot of our foods make us gain weight such as high fructose corn syrup and in our meats.)

However, you will not lose a lot of weight if you eat the natural fats that vegans consume such as oil.

Good luck, contact me if you have any other questions. (I have been vegetarian for years, but vegan only for a couple months.)

In most cases it should until you reach an equilibrium. .

It should..

You'll lose some weight for sure I have been vegan for 2 years and have lost 30lbs. and it's still coming off...

I've known vegans to get fat. It still depends on what you eat, when you eat, and how much you eat.

if the food you consume is low-fat and high in veggies, fruits, whole grains, and fiber, yes it will

VEGANISM AND VEGETARIANISM IS NOT A DIET. It's a way of life, and you can be fat or skinny just like anyone else if you are a veggie. This question has been on here so much in the past 2 days.........when will people realize that?

I went straight from omni to vegan and I did lose 30 lbs. over the first few months and maintained my current weight since then but not everyone is the same, just to let you know.

I only know one other vegan and he was quite large.

If you went from a "regular meat-eating diet", which for many Americans means lots of fast food, processed food, fat, and sodium to a vegan diet with few processed foods, then yes, you would likely lose weight.

However, be aware that there is a lot of vegan "junk food" on the market. Junk is junk, whether it contains animal products or not.

I have this friend that went vegan, and he lost like 50 pounds. I only lost around 5, but I'm naturally pretty light I guess. And I never really ate much either way.

It depends on what you replace the meat with, if you do with only green veggies, then you will loose weight but if you consume more carbohydrates you may even gain some weight.

Veganism is not a diet plan.

The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. Period.
