Vegans how about shots?!

Question: Do you do shots for immunizations for your children? I hear the flu shot has eggs in it. If immunizations are not vegan have you gotten into it with the health department? Or was it a hassel to enroll your child in school? Wait are the shots that they give small babies and children even vegan? Not asking to make fun of anything but I really don't know!

Well, then if your child gets small pox, you'll think twice about not giving them vaccinations. There's a lot of diseases these vaccinations prevent and most of them are deadly, so if you opt not to give your child one, don't think that being vegan will prevent a deadly strain of yellow fever or small pox. Look at Inida, the population is a living breathing vegan sect, but a lot are still dying for diseases that we can't get because we're immunized. I really think vaccinations should be for the diseases that can kill...like smallpox. They're giving vaccinations for every stupid thing that a child can learn to grow up and deal with. Frankly, a kid needs to get chicken pox, not vaccinated with it. I have no health problems. In fact, they should only give the shots they gave to me back in 1990 like tetanus...well i got tetanus five years ago...but mostly only the deadly diseases. And to be fair, it hasn't been proven whether or not shots actually increases mercury levels in the brain. They're still doing tests on that.

Given that vaccinations are now being proven to cause all sorts of illnesses early and later in life (Autism, for one) I would think eggs would be the least of their concerns.

I have found that most people following a healthy vegan lifestyle will stick to nature as much as possible (i.e.) they would avoid fluoride in water, they would avoid vaccinating their children, they would avoid aspartame in fizzy drinks, they would avoid mercury fillings, they would avoid chemical cleaning products, they would avoid unnecessary drugs from the doctor.

I know from my own experience, as you eat purer (non-processed foods) you really think twice about the chemicals you are putting into your body.

.

The flu vaccine contains dead virus strains that are grown in eggs. It does not contain any actual egg matter. I admire the fact that you are vegan, but I honestly think you are taking this too far.

Almost all medicines have been tested on animals at some point, and many contain animal by-products.. Any suggestion that vegans should therefore refuse them and put their lives and the lives of their children at risk is ludicrous. Veganism is not about martyrdom, it is about minimising one's contribution to animal suffering and exploitation as far as possible. It doesn't mean being willing to put your children's lives at risk, and I believe most vegans will feel a responsibility to have their children immunised.

The supposed link between immunisation - specifically the MMR jab - and autism is based on data from only 12 patients. Dr. Andrew Wakefield (a British gastroenterologist) and colleagues speculated that MMR vaccine may have been the possible cause of bowel problems which led to a decreased absorption of essential vitamins and nutrients which resulted in developmental disorders like autism. No link has been proven.
