Wow, your friend is really clueless. Don't listen to him.

"only way to get protein is by vitamins"? WTF does this mean? Sorry, LOL, that really makes no sense. Tell your friend to rephrase this sentence.

Eating meat (well too much) actually weakens your bones because protein pulls calcium from the bones. Eating a vegetarian diet makes your bones stronger.

Make you really skinny? Not unless you eat salads all day long. If you eat a healthy diet, and you're fat now, you'll become normal weight. If you're already at a normal weight, you aren't going to get skinnier.

omfg.... dont do this! You're killing yourself!

you can get proteins from nuts =)

being vegetarian coupled with exercise and the right attitude can make you really healthy!!!

well im a seventh day adventist religious group most of my friends are vegans and i never seen a happier bunch doing cart wheels as of where i eat meat i can lift so much but i cant measure up to them physically .you can do it my uncle is a vegan i never seen a healthier man alive plus portein you can replace with peanuts and beans and other protein supliments

a) Vegetarians aren't all underweight. Some are healthy, some are not... why? Because they aren't eating properly. A *lot* of omnivores aren't healthy, either. Funny how nobody thinks of that.

b) He says that the only way to get protein is by vitamins? So what does he think, then, only meat has vitamins? Hahaha. Usually you hear more about vitamins in veggies than in meat.
The other thing about protein is that the body doesn't need nearly as much as people have been raised to believe, and also, there are other sources of it.
Some links on protein:
http://exercise.about.com/cs/nutrition/a...
http://www.healthrecipes.com/healthy_die...
The recommended amount of protein a day is 0.8 grams a kg.
Alternative protein sources include most types of beans, tofu, eggs (if you're not going vegan), soy milk, peanuts... the links have more...

c) Weak bones? If you're going vegetarian, I don't know why he'd bring that up, because usually that comes up with veganism - or are you cutting out milk too? If so, know that studies have been done supporting the idea that too much milk can *cause* osteoporosis! "Americans have among the highest osteoporosis rates in the world, while their dairy intake is also among the highest"

But I think that the best way to prove him wrong is to do it, and show him how healthy and good you feel after!
If he doesn't shut up, remind him you don't bug him about eating meat, so he should trust you to do the right things for your body and butt out.
Good luck!

Ask your doctor.

Vegetarian is a lifestyle that takes certain dedication and will to accomplish. Vegetables are very healthy if you eat a wide variety of vegetables to supplement the essential nutrients your body needs. Proteins are important and are found abundantly in certain meats but proteins are mainly important if you plan to build muscle or to bulk up they also help the body re-energize after hard workouts. Too much protein can have adverse effects if not taken proportionately and proteins from shakes are equally beneficial and meat does not need to be consumed in order to acquire proteins. Also taking a multi vitamin with your vegetarian meal is important to raise the necessary levels of nutrients and vitamins the body needs. Now multi vitamins do not have to be taken daily they can be taken every other day with a meal just to raise your body's low level nutrients that a multi vitamin can help supply. Tell your friend your new lifestyle is your choice and that his views although taken into consideration are not entirely correct. One can live a proper healthy life with a vegan lifestyle if not even longer and more healthier if one exercises and eats properly. Their are many vegans out there the ones I know have healthier looking skin, no diabetes, no high blood pressure, well toned bodies and they have less chances of falling ill to other diseases. I also plan to turn my diet around, not to a complete vegan cause I love chicken and fish but I plan to change my diet 90% vegetables and 10% fat free chicken breast and fish fillet. Good Luck, Peace.

Why are you going vegetarian? Because you want to lose weight or just because you want to? I think you are too young to have to worry about you don't need to eat. You're obviously not fat, so you have nothing to worry about. And too many girls go the wrong way with vegetarian and just eat a salad a day and NOTHING else. If you are going vegetarain, make sure to get your food groups in there minus the meat and then talk about your doctor about getting the protein. Remember fruit is always available! Man, I wouldn't be able to do what you are doing! I need my meat!

This is from the movie, kicking and screaming
Will: Dad you need you proteins.
Dad: I do get my proteins everyday, it's called a steak!

lol I love it. <3 good luck with everything

It's a known fact that the majority of vegetarians are healthier than meat eaters .
He has no point in saying that you need proteins and that you only can get them from vitamins.. you can get all your vitimans and protein from vegetables and fruits .
Nuts and beans have alot of protein and stuff in them .
I don't get alot of iron so i take iron tablets..
justt tell him that you can still get all your vitamins etc. even if you don't eat meat .

there are usually two types of vegetarians - healthy vegetarians and junk food vegetarians. junk food vegetarians live off of pasta and rice and things like that. if you want to become a vegetarian, try not to be a junk food vegetarian. pasta and rice is fine, but sometimes that's all they eat, and that's when it gets unhealthy. there are places where you could get all sorts of imitation meats that taste as good if not better than the real thing, and are healthier for you. they do have less calories, but it's because the food doesn't have fat in it, so don't think that a vegetarian will automatically become anorexic or something. just try eating or drinking a lot of soy products, and you'll be surprised of how much protein you'll get out of it. even meat eaters don't always eat the recommended daily amount of protein each day. ever since i became a vegetarian, i have started eating a lot healthier. and you'll start enjoying the taste of vegetables a lot more. =-)

LOL, your friend has no idea what he's talking about.

Is he a registered dietitian? I doubt it.

The arrogance of some people that pretend to have knowledge on a subject when they don't really disgusts me.

Do these people look half-dead?

Please kick your friend in the nuts for me and record a video of him bawling and vomiting afterward.
