Question: I will also be putting this question in the religion section too.

i was raised mormon and we were advised to eat meat sparingly. of course i took it to the extreme and stopped eating any animal products whatsoever.

I was raised Christian and all my family eat meat except for me, so at least from my experience, no.

It depends on the religion and depends on how it's interpreted.

Jainism is interpreted as being cruelty free living. Christianity is usually interpreted as take what you can before some else does..."god" put it here for you to use, etc..

It SHOULD discourage eating animals. But I don't feel it does.

If God put animals on the earth to eat, then that is NOT the God I want to be associated with.

If God thinks we should eat animals, he's cruel and not an all-loving deity.

I would say that it depends on which religion. Christianity doesnt say anything about it, if anything it is in the Bible as something to do. Certain religions are specific about which animals you eat and dont.

It depends on the religion.

If you're quoting scripture, you've conveniently forgotten "god's" post-flood words to Noah.

It depends on the religion, I suppose.
I'm a cradle Catholic and our religion never really talks about diet and food. I do read the Bible and it seems that God gave humans everything they needed to eat in the *garden* of Eden.
Granted, He also gave man authoritative rule over animals, but not the license to eat them and mistreat them. (He simply made us more intelligent).
It's just my personal belief that God doesn't want to see anything He created to suffer.

It depends which religion you are talking about. I think most of the major religions have some discourse on food. With the exception of Jainism, I don't think any ask you to not eat meat. Some like Judism and Islam forbid certain meat (like pork), but that is different.

I think propaganda has made more people decide to not eat meat then religion.
