You can get all the vitamins and nutrients you need by eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains. It's not necessary to eat meat to be healthy - just look at all of the people in India who were raised as vegetarians.
There are actually many health benefits of vegetarian diets. The American Dietetic Association is one of the nation's leading nutrition experts, and it states: "...vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases....Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer."
Here's a list of some good vegetarian sources of protein, iron, and calcium: http://www.tryveg.com/cfi/toc/?v=08sourc...
Good luck!
ive been a vegetarian for 4 years for ethical reasons but ive kept it up because meat truely IS gross (i cant stand even looking at it)... im a 21 year old in totally healthy condition. I get most of my protein through tofu, cheese, and nuts/peanutbutter... stuff like that... and it is totally adequate for me. If youre concerned about getting vitamins you need... just take a multivitamin everyday... i'd also make sure youre getting enough milk or soymilk. For instance tonight, im about to have a slice of pizza with a glass of milk... thats totally enough protein for me. I dont get why people think they need to eat a big hunk of steak to be able to exercise at the gym... thats some wacko american think i think. In most countries meat is a small side dish... and the main course is some kind of carb based/veggie thing. Thats why we americans are so damn wasteful with our food... we eat tons of meat when we could be eating more efficient diets that would fill us up just as well. Oh well... good luck with it ;)
Meat gives you protien, and other nutrients, you can replace some of those by eating beans, cheeses, nuts, ect.
There are tons of people out there that are vegans, and they have to watch and balance their diet more than most, but you CAN live without meat...
Good Luck,,, try the link below!!
