Corals are skeletal remains of marine organisms from the class Anthozoa and exist as small sea anemone–like polyps, typically in colonies of many identical individuals. The group includes the important reef builders that are found in tropical oceans, which secrete calcium carbonate to form a hard skeleton. Sea anemones are a group of water dwelling, predatory animals of the order Actiniaria; they are named after the anemone, a terrestrial flower. As cnidarians, sea anemones are closely related to corals, jellyfish, tube-dwelling anemones and Hydra.

Since Coral came from a living animal, then it is not vegan. Vegans only eat plant based products that do not envolve the killing of an animal. Calcium supplements made of coral are more nutritious, but since you are vegan, you cannot use them.

Coral is formed from tiny microscopic animals so therefore is not vegan.
It is also incredibly environmentally damaging to harvest coral.

coral is made by microscopic creatures that slowly accumulate the rock into the various reefs you see...a coral-based supplement kills/removes habitat for the microscopic creatures...which i guess makes it non-vegan

"Coral is made by millions of tiny carnivorous (meat eating) animals called polyps. Polyps live in groups called colonies."

From what I can gather it is a substance that is made by polyps. So you may want look at it as a product made by that animal. (Like a cow produces milk) So I don't believe you could call it vegan.

I really think this is one of those personal calls. Check out the website below and see how you feel and make the decision your comfortable with.

It might be. I think it depends on the individual. It's no worse than using fossil fuels I guess.

My answer is assuming they use dead coral.

Definitely not vegan, and I would be especially concerned about the environmental impact of harvesting coral.

N o it is not vegan. Coral is made up of microscoptic sea creatures. Coral is dying all along the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and is causing environmental harm. It may be a great source of calcium, but it would be very VOC (vegan of convenience) of you to use it.

Coral contains thousands of tiny microscopic animals.

Also, harvesting coral is very bad for the environment.
Coral takes thousands of years to re-grow, but it often does not regrow.

For these two reasons, Coral is non-vegan.

Love of Truth, please do not buy coral in any form
