Can you die from being vegetarian ? .... increase in pH !?!
Any truth to the death due to increase in pH theory ?
http://www.dehlgroup.com/acidph2.html The individual is Dr. Dereki so she has some knowledge of biological systems. I do'nt want to die, and I believe that my metabolism has increased since I've started the vegetarian diet, because when I stay all organic, I loose alot of weight quickly, since I am not eating anything unhealthy ! Does your metabolism really increase ? If I eat junk food, not all, mostly cookies (^_^) for an extended period of time, I do gain weight.
All information apppreciated (^_^) thx adv.
Answers: My friend told me that his teacher informed the class that being a vegetarian had its negative side effects, as it increases the acidity of the blood, because there are no bases like meat and fish to neutralize the blood. I have noticed that I have had an increasing heart rate since I started the vegetarian diet, and I just that, that was due to the increase in sugar and stress (^_^).

His teacher doesn't know what he/she is talking about. The idea of PH is alkaline vs. acidic, in which alkaline is generally considered to be good and acidic is considered to be bad (though too far alkaline is bad, too).
Interesting, meat is acidic. It does NOT neutralize the blood - in fact, it makes it more acidic than most anything else. As are dairy products, eggs, etc... as well as certain vegetables, fruits, legumes, etc... However, MOST fruits and vegetables are alkaline (the vast majority, in fact).
Grains are also acidic, and big part of the diet for most vegetarians. However, they're also a big part of the diet of most meat eaters and junk food eaters... often higher than vegetarians, in fact, but without the other things to balance them out. Whereas vegetarians eat some acidic things but more alkaline things, people who eat meat eat WAY more acidic things.
So his teacher actually has it backwards. Vegetarians tend to have a more alkaline and balanced pH, whereas those who eat meat tend to be more acidic. So vegetarians, by that measure, are much healthier.
Here's a site that has a decent list of Alkaline and Acidic foods. You'll see that most fruits, vegetables, etc... are Alkaline, but all meats are Acidic: http://www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka....
no i use to eat one and now im one and im alive
his teacher is full of ****!.....it healthier to be a vegetarian actually vegan than a non-vegan!.....u just need to do it right! educate urself on it....dont believe idiots especially a stupid comment like that....u shouldve known!
HAHAHA that teacher is insane, sorry to say. Meat and Dairy are the most acidic foods you could possibly eat.
It all says it right here: http://www.thewolfeclinic.com/acidalkfoo...
Print that webpage out and give your teacher an education.
I am a vegan, and am avid athlete. I have figure skated for years, but one thing that is VERY important is protein. I get mine from raw organic eggs. I'd say, as long as your diet is balanced and you include a variety of fruit, grains, and plenty of water and protein, you should be fine. Consult a doctor to get your blood levels checked, so you don't have an underlying problem. That's what happened to me two years ago in college when I got really sick. Be careful about low cholesterol, low blood sugar, and anemia. That's another thing- if you're an athlete, you need a lot of iron to transport enough oxygen. If one thing goes off balance, it can introduce a lot of problems and make you sick (hormone imbalance, psm, etc.) -- so watch out for that. :)
Well if it were true, I'm sure there would be more people talking about it than your friend's teacher. You may want to ask your friend to ask the teacher where he got this from and to check his sources!!! (LOL, well if your friend says the second thing, there may be some consequences.
being a vegan can't kill you... their are many other ways to get protein
I've been a vegetarian for a few years and haven't noticed any health problems. I taken iron supplements and eat tofu and pine nuts for my protein. And I'm as healthy as I was before I stopped eating meat. Probably even healthier.
no not at all
Yes, it is very true! I am writing this from my grave. I wish there was some light in here! - Hello, anyone there?
I've been vegetarian for nearly 14 years and have had NO health problems associated with it. There are extremists who say a vegetarian diet is awful and ones who say it will cure everything. Neither is true. A well balanced vegetarian diet meets all the same nutritional requirements as a diet with meat. Your teacher has no idea what he's talking about. He may just be another guilty omnivore who is looking for any justification to continue his meat eating lifestyle.
I have heard rubbish from university educators as well. One doctor said it was bad to avoid cholesterol! However it sounds to me like your friend misheard or was making it up.
You need to remember that people can be prejudiced for all sorts of reasons, and that you shouldn't believe ANYTHING anybody says without checking the facts. Asking us here was a good place to start, but don't take our word for it; look up the links provided (not just mine, but the others as well)
did that one guy compare us {humans} to rat. lol.
i'm a vegetarian. It's important to realize when you become one that you are cutting a lot out of your diet, and so you have to compensate for that in other ways. Your doctor will always be happy to talk to you and suggest dietary options. I've actually been healthier since i've been a vegetarian. I almost had surgery for my galbladder because of these massive cramps i used to get and pains in my abdomen. I guess I have a problem digesting fats and proteins. (that's not the only reason i'm vegetarian. )
What!?!?
Your friends teacher is not a dietitian, If he/she was, this so-called teacher would know how stupid he/she sounds.
Meat and dairy are more acid forming than plant foods.
Do these people look like they are dying?

Either your friend has misunderstood what his teacher said, or he's making it up, or he has a teacher who knows nothing about nutrition (nobody who claims that particular foods will make your blood acidic understands nutrition) and is passing on misinformation to his/her students.
No foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine.

Acid/Alkaline Theory of Disease Is Nonsense by Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

even some "educated" people are morons
I went vegetarian when I was 10... that was 18 years ago.. I've rarely even been sick, even less frequently have I been dead
My mom and brother have booth been vegetarian as long (or maybe close to a year longer) Both healthy as horses
the only person in my family to die was my meat-and-potatoes father who never went vegetarian....his motto was "die eating what you like" He did.. from his second heart attack.. He was only 57.. I was 19..
there's scientific evidence showing that vegetarians live longer..
That teacher appears to be a moron and it saddens me to think that he's actually influencing impressionable young people who think he knows what he's talking about because he's a biology teacher...
Wow that is a new one I hadn't heard before.
Not Valid. Our PH is meant to be highly alkaline.
Plant based diets are more natural for our bodies & keep them on the more akaline side where they NEED to be.
This is where I 1st learned these truths. Acid Vs Akalinity of our bodies needs, diets etc.

Also here is a food chart(that does include animal flesh)

Looking at it you will see it takes very little to keep your body in it's proper balance.
Do not be fearful where there needs to be no fear..it takes away the JOY your life is meant to have.
Slainté (to your health)
Eat a balanced diet. Meat + vegetable.
Never heard of vegeterian dying because of pH change.
However, eat a diet balance.
Humans are not horses or cows.
Cows dont eat meat.
Tigers dont eat grass.
Rats eat all.
Humans eat all.
