Vegetarians - Do you wear leather?!

Question: I was talking to 2 friends who, like me, are vegetarian (for animal cruelty reasons). Then one of them piped up 'I got these cool shoes for £10 and they were leather'.
Is there anyone else who does this? How do you defend this argument if you do?

You can't defend the argument if you are vegetarian for "Animal Rights" reasons. However, many people are vegetarians for other reasons like socio-economic (exploitation of poor countries for meat) or health reasons.

But for animal rights if you are buying leather products you show a logical inconsistency in your world view and will be regarded as a foolish person.

I don't wear leather, so thankfully there's nothing to defend.

Some veg*ns will wear pregan leather/wool/fur/silk - they'll use and honour the item until it's time to replace it, then replace it with something vegan.

i avoid it wear i can , it is animal cruelty especially if the animal is only used for leather! i stay away from things like that , animals have rights too!
xxXxx

I am a vegetarian and don't wear leather, or anything related. But, I have seen some vegetarians wear leather/fur.

This has been something that has been bothering myself as well. I do feel like a hypocrite wearing or buying leather since I won't eat meat because of animal cruelty. So I have decided to stop supporting the leather industry.
My husband however is a vegetarian also and wears leather but his reasoning's are different than mine as to why he is a veggie in the first place. He also says...at least you are getting years use out of a quality product just reading the labels and not buying any leather products from India is enough for me to feel guilt free.
Well..we somewhat disagree however, to each there own.

try not to

Thats a very good well thought question... i know a vegetarian and she does... interesting

That's just plain dumb if she's a vegitarian for animal cruelty reasons and she's wearing leather. Maybe you should gently remind her that the leather in those shoes comes from the cows she refuses to eat.

And no, I do not. I am vegan and don't wear animals :]

Vegan lifestyle more-so prohibs the leather. I am a two year vegetarian, and I wear leather.

I can understand your friends with the animal cruelty scene, of which I am appart of to some extent. I have stoped using cosmetics that do animal testing, and wear un-necessary animal clothings like silk. I need leather and fur to keep me warm.

If you want the shoes, then you can wear them. Vegetarianism is a choice that you must make yourself, this goes along with the animal cruelty. You can suggest to people ways in which they can have their meat and be friendly to the animals. that is animal rights.

You need to stick up to your friends and tell them that you want to purchase the shoes !

no.
I don't do that.
I couldn't possibly wear skin on my feet.
ugh.
That girl is crazy! If you're veg, and not supporting animal cruelty, then don't wear an animals skin! That is cruelty.

leather products = animal cruelty
so no :)

I dont wear leather not only that I dont like it but it is also animal cruelty.

What humans were killed only for there skin when the things that kill us could easly wear something else??

To me, it like the HOLOCAUST for animals
