im a vegetarian n my mom gets pissed off because she has to make two meals. But i understand that.
tell them how animals are killed and slaughtered. show them some videos. thats what made me a vegetarian. its horrible how they kill the animals.
Wen ur parents see the videos maybe theyll see that u are a compassionate person and thats y ur not eating the animals.
lol my mom used to say that chicken was crab meat so that i would eat it. I believed her 2 :)
jus dont giv up on ur views because you r right.

Because almost everyone likes meat. Your just different

If your weight is healthy and your energy level is good that should speak to their concerns. A lot of people don't know how to react to the "vegan" concepts. but being vegetarian can be a healthy lifestyle. Give them some literature to read about the benefits. Cook them a delicious, protein enriched, yummy dish.

Tell them that if you eat right it don't matter what you choose to eat or not eat, it's truly your choice in what you consume in to your body, look up the diet of a vegan on google and show them that!

I you are over 18 then just ignore them and/or don't be around them. If you are under 18 I suggest you go see the school nurse or/nutritionist and ask them to help you design a healthful diet. Once they've printed it out, take it home and show it to your parents. Maybe they will believe a medical professional.

In all honesty if you are under 18, live with your parents, and were trying to subsist on celery and a handful of sprouts, I can understand their concern. However, if you were eating a big bowl of oatmeal with soymilk for breakfast, a peanut butter sandwich for lunch, and some beans and rice and a cooked vegetable for dinner (i.e. "normal" food albeit vegan) and they still think you have an eating disorder than......

.....frankly there is probably no help for them. Especially if they are the kind of people who think 250 lbs is a normal healthy weight for an average woman. It's hopeless, don't waste your time trying to convert them.

Wait it out and as soon as you are 18 just leave home and don't give a forwarding address.

Firstly, being a vegetarian and being healthy is easy. Being vegan and being healthy is very hard. You need to pay a lot attention to your diet to stay healthy.

Now, I had a friend with an eating disorder who was a "vegetarian" which was usually just an excuse not to have to eat in public.

Now, I am not a vegie, but I often avoid meat. But when you are packing away the potatos, rice, bread and tofu and asking for more, then you don't get accussed of having an eating disorder.

Vegetarians get a lot of hassles from even doctors, because some vegetarians do have eating disorders.

Vegans often end up with health problems even if they are healthy eaters. Just relax, stock on alternatives, expecially tofu (which is delicious...I currently live in China where there are 100s of varieties that turn even the craziest meat lover around) and chick peas (one of my favourite beans).

So whenever they offer you dairy, have a glass of soy milk to assure they people who care about you that you are eating in a healthy way.

Because many with eating disorders become vegetarian or vegan to hide their extreme weight loss, sadly, the two come hand in hand in many peoples minds. Many anorexics and bulimics become vegetarians because it became a convenient excuse to explain away their drastic weight loss. This is due to the mistaken notion by many people that vegetarianism is a weight loss program.

You said you were anorexic. Are you sure you are cured of the disorder? And it seems like your friends and family are just being concerned about your health. Are you still under medical care? A dietitian? Perhaps you can take some friends or family with you the next time you visit so they can see how being a vegan is not bad at all.

In most cases, the person hasn't educated themselves on the issue beyond the point of needing to resort to bias and stereotype when formulating their opinion.

You can convince them by proving them wrong with your eating habits and your health.

I don't think its an eating disorder, but perhaps they look down or think that it's weird is because humans were not made to reject meat - they need to consume even a little bit of it at least once in a while. There's nothing wrong with being a vegetarian, I don't judge anyone on that - I'm not a vegetarian by the way, anyways - but I do think that one should eat some meat once in a while because that is the main source of protein. Plants just don't cut it.

Either they are ignorant or you are displaying behaviors related to an eating disorder. I don't know because I don't know anything about how you eat and how you relate to food.

Prove to them that being vegan isn't bad by being a healthy vegan. Do your research and make good and sure that you know how to nourish yourself, then do it. If they are trying to force or trick you into eating something you don't want to eat, don't trust them to prepare food for you. It sucks, but some people aren't trustworthy. Stick to your guns, be healthy and happy and either they'll come around or they won't. You can't take responsibility for anyone but yourself - if they continue to react badly, that is their issue.

i know! i'm the same way!!!!! like i'm vegetarain u know y? cause they have no idea wat that means all my freinds think i'm gonna die in the next 5 hours!!!! its cause they thinks it differnt and there lifestyle is better then r's! there r soooo rong u just need to explain to them y u and i think the way we do and mybe probally not but matb they will agree

Well did you suddenly decide to become a vegan? Because it's actually dangerous just to quite eating Meat, Eggs, Etc...So maybe you just start by cutting things down slowly and then when your at the edge, just tell your parents you are pro-choice and that you hope they support you being Vegan. Everyone who I know is Vegan is skinny and fabulous! But be careful!

It is abnormal for humans to not eat meat. Even worse for all animal products. Animals are just another source of nutrition that should be embraced as providing a varied and balanced source of replenishment. I hear people speaking of "eating babies" or such; well how do you think the "baby alfalfa sprout" feels? Answer, no differently. You just got hood-winked, or coerced with peer pressure. It probably "makes me feel good"; well good luck when you get older, and have health issues. No, animal products don't make us sick; too many soda's and junk food do. We need to level with ourselves and be honest and consistent with our approach to our nutrition.
