Anyone Ever Tried Nutrisystem's Vegetarian Program?!
As a lacto-ovo vegetarian for seven years, I already adhere to a pretty healthy diet, and I'm in an aerobics/kickboxing/lightweightlifting class three nights a week. I'm probably still gaining five pounds a year, though.
Has anyone tried Nutrisystem's Vegetarian Program? If so, how did it work for you? It's the only thing I can think of that may help with my so-called weight problem. Also, was it a lot of effort to prepare the food? I hate to cook, so I want a plan that's as easy as possible.
Answers: Two of my doctors (my primary care physician and my gyn/ob) are telling me I need to lose weight when they look at sheer numbers. I'm 31, around 5'9", and probably 195 pounds, but no one ever believes that I'm nearly that heavy. Yes, I'd like a flatter stomach, but I'm only a size 14. Still, one of the doctors wants me to get down to 150. I haven't been less than 170 in at least 17 years, so I'm not sure how that would be possible, especially since I take good care of myself.

My mother did this diet, and she lost all her weight, and has pretty much kept it off, but she exercises a LOT too.
I tried some of the food, and it was totally unpleasant to me. Bland and processed and kind of chemically flavored. It's very simple to make, just heat and eat, and you also eat a lot of salad and yogurt.
I think the most important thing that my mom learned from the diet was about portion control. The portions are small, so your stomach shrinks and you are satisfied with less food.
I learned this from "French Women Don't Get Fat" I, personally like delicious food, but if eating is just another chore for you, like it is for my mom, go for the Nutrisystem.
Good luck.
I have tryed this system and it does work very well. Have fun!
I have not tried Nutrisystem, but I would not recommend it to you - prepackaged meal food plans do not teach you how to eat healthy, nor do they teach you to exercise or otherwise change habits. Once you are off the program you still don't know how to apply healthy eating to normal life - like when you cook for yourself, when you go to a restaurant, etc. It might be easy at first because they do all the work for you, but once the weight falls off you'll go back to the same behaviors you had before. It's best to start off on a harder plan but one that will teach you how to cook and what to buy.
I am a fan of the Weight Watchers program, and there are vegetarian options there. It doesn't teach you to diet, it teaches you to make healthier food choices and to incorporate exercise into your daily routine without feeling overwhelmed or over-planned. My friend did Weight Watchers and has already lost 30 or so pounds so far this year (it was her New Year's Resolution).
Weight Watchers is also comparatively one of the CHEAPEST programs out there; when you sign up for Nutrisystem or other similiar diets, most of what you pay for is their meals and the delivery payments to get them to you. Their meals are in no way better or more effective than Lean Cuisine TV dinners that you buy in the store.
W.W. will teach you how to cook for yourself, how to make healthy choices at the grocery store and it's cheap on top of it, so what else could you want? Plus they have GREAT support groups, I've gone with my friend to a few just to see what they're like, since she was so excited about it. And I really think it's a very positive, motivated environment.
I think it's great that you're taking the initiative to lose weight. That was the biggest decision to undertake.
