Hypocrite vegans? (graphic language maybe?)?!

Question: Ok, So vegans don't eat/use animal products. This means they don't eat eggs.

The eggs you get at the food store are unfertilized eggs. right?

So, Are chicks and gay men who swallow semen still considered hypocrite vegans? I don't see how they could consider them self vegans if they swallow, and thus eating, it.

Danny S is correct (why did he get five thumb downs??). Vegans avoid animal products that involved pain and/or exploitation. That's why milk, eggs and obviously meat are all out. Unless you FORCE a woman to give you breast milk, or force a man to give you his ejaculate, vegans would have no problem consuming it. Vegans have nothing against consuming animal products per se - only animal products that have been produced without the consent of the animal. Since humans are the only animals that can communicate their consent, this means only human products are actually acceptable in veganism.

I would say no unless the man was being tortured LOL

That's not hypocrisy - hypocrisy by definition is not living according to one's beliefs.

Vegans do not believe in exploiting animals for profit (like the dairy, egg or meat industries - and believe me, it's not the egg itself that is the problem as it is the treatment of hens in egg battery farms - look at a single picture of a battery farm, the source of 95% of eggs in America, and you'll probably get it).

Swallowing semen does not exploit any animals, assuming it is a consensual act between adults, which is typically the case (and lawfully the only case) in which the swallowing of semen should occur.

It is not hypocrisy in any way.

This question is just eww. But your avatar is cute :)

Chickens can't consent to giving humans their gamete cells, therefor humans using eggs is exploitation of chickens.

Men CAN consent to giving humans their gamete cells, and therefor are not exploited.

DMat13: sugar is technically NOT vegan. White sugar is filtered through animal bone char.

Haha, interesting question!

As Maggie pointed out, the problem with eggs from a vegan standpoint is the way the egg-laying hens are mistreated. Hens on factory farms are so intensively confined that they can barely move for their entire lives. Even on free-range farms, the hens are slaughtered after about 2 years (when they stop producing many eggs.) Male chicks are commonly ground up alive or suffocated in trash bags, since they don't produce eggs and are worthless to the industry.

So, there's nothing hypocritical about swallowing semen because no animal suffering or exploitation is involved.

Veganism is based on the belief that it is wrong to exploit animals.

If the person is consenting and giving up their body fluids willingly (without exploitation), then I don't see how it is hypocrisy.

P.s. I totally agree with DMat13. There is no way of actually being 100% vegan if you're going to trace everything back in a big long line.

Although on the note of sugar... vegans aren't being silly! About half of all white sugar made in the U.S. is refined with carbon filters that are made from animal bone char.

Ya know, I thought no one was more stupid than vegetarians until you.

The man's sperm doesn't contain the eggs. They're in the woman's ovary you retard.

speechless...

No, it's obviously not against a vegan's beliefs or ethics because there is consent involved.

WHY ARE YOU SO CONCERNED? At least we have a cause where we fight to make the world a better place!

Is the persons whose semen they swallow locked in a cage without any room to move against their will? Probably not, that is the biggest problem with eggs, the way the chickens are kept. Funny question though:)

I wish I had known this in college, I could have saved so much neck pain! D@mn it.

I wonder if I can use this "logic" with my husband when I am not in the mood. "Sorry, darling, I would love ot give you head, but I am a vegan". I'll try it tonight see if it works. - thanks for the laugh buddy!

Or maybe my husband feels like he is a tortured animal! - again, there goes my veganism!

In no way are vegans hypocrites. Vegans (like myself) are trying to stop this endless war (that we will one day win) of torturing and exploiting innocent creatures that do not have a voice for themselves. Therefore we refuse to consume any animal products that come from an innocent factory farmed animal. That is just like saying if a vegan bites her nails is she a hypocrite? Totally ridiculous if you ask me.

I am a vegan and quite honestly I understand why you feel we are hypocrites. For my part, I just want to say that I don't preach to others about what they should and shouldn't do. I've been on this board for a while now, and I only see a few of those preachy types.

I use over the counter medications several times a week. When I had a respiratory infection this last winter, I used antibiotics. Since I'm a scientist, I know that quite a bit of animal testing was used for the research and development of those medicines. I eat vegetables from crops which have been harvested by farmers using tractors and other machinery, which I am told kills a lot of animals like rabbits. So you won't see me spray painting fur, taking part in animal rights protests or telling people what to eat.

Keep in mind that to many of us vegans, it's an individual issue and we do not try to tell others how to live their lives.

Sure, there are aspects that can be hypocritical. But aren't we all in one way or another?

I grow as much as my own food as possible, don't eat factory farm meat, and only eat fish I catch and humanely dispatch myself.

I think the point is at least attempting to make things better. Sort of giving it the ol' college try even if all things don't come up equal.

You may end up a hypocrite sometimes, but its still better than not trying at all. Sort of like trying to be understanding of other people's point of view even if its totally baffling to you. We're all jerks. Its nice, though, to give someone some wiggle room that's trying to do a good thing even if you don't understand the point.

I agree. Vegans can be strange. I actually saw a product labeled 'vegan sugar.' Seriously, sugar is already vegan, and I'm sure you can trace any product to an animal, bug, etc... lol... a bug died underneath the tractor that harvested some vegetables; therefore it's not really vegan.
