That's an absolute myth, plants cannot experience pain like animals do, they have no brains or nervous systems. Whenever you hear people bring that up, it's just a poorly thought out excuse. Plants do experience a chemical response to outside disturbances, but it's in no way actual physical pain, which requires actual nerves to feel and experience.

Also, if people tell you the silly plant thing, mention one other thing to them: if they are so concerned about plants dying, they should be vegetarian even MORE for that very reason. After all, 80% of the plants on this planet are grown and harvested solely to support animal agriculture, and it takes 16 pounds of plants to make 1 pound of meat (not to mention 2,500 gallons of water per pound of meat!).These are not arbitrary statistics, these are federal averages, and the gallons of water statistic was actually voluntarily offered by the Cattleman's association in America.

Here is an article for you hon....don't feel bad, you need to eat!

When people claim that plants feel pain, I respond (sarcastically) by saying "Yeah, you're right. There's absolutely no difference between skinning a cat alive and mowing your lawn." That helps people to come to their senses.

Even if plants had pain receptors, nervous systems, and brains (which they don't), we'd still kill fewer plants by being vegetarians. This is because plants have to be fed to the farmed animals, and meat production is very inefficient. Animals raised for food have to eat as many as 16 pounds of grain to create just 1 pound of edible flesh.

dont feel guilty.anyway they have feeling you must to eat.they are created for us to make our health healthy.so eat them.but you must not make them suffer too much .

That is extremely untrue. In order to feel pain you need two things, a brain and nerve endings both of which plants do not have. Don't let those people make you think that way I get ridiculed that way to lol. Don't worry plants don't have feelings its OK.

what am i supposed to do? haha.........

You need to educate yourself, that is what you need to do.

I am not answering this question AGAIN. It has been answered sooooo many times before.

.

Humans evolved as omnivores, but so did rats. We have more choices than rats, and rats don't have factory farms, though.

I think the most moral choice is local organic food, especially plant based food from small farms where they love their plants.

Plants have feelings, but it is in their interest to make delicious food for us with their fruit, leaves, seeds, roots etc. because we will save their seeds and propagate their progeny.

Also read "The Botany of Desire" and "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan and "The Secret Life of Plants" (I forget the author) for a more in depth answer to this question

When a person says that to you, you reply:

"when that carrot starts running way, I'll start eating animals that struggle for their lives ever day in factory farming conditions and in the slaughter houses!"

Listen, many people try to ease their own guilt of eating animals by justifying them in anyway they can.

Plants do not have central nervous system. - no brain no pain.

"When people claim that plants feel pain, I respond (sarcastically) by saying "Yeah, you're right. There's absolutely no difference between skinning a cat alive and mowing your lawn." That helps people to come to their senses." - Karen

Ditto to what Karen said.

Karen, you rock my socks!

In the "moral-high ground' nothing wrong for you to feel so. A person's mind determine his diet choice, diet choice determined his mind state, and therefore "modus operandi" (self realization). Do remember that eating habit aligned with moral and spiritual evolution of a person, environment, state of birth, value and belief. Paleolithic diet, Omnivorous diet (one level below Cannibalism), vegetarianism, fruitorian, microbial and breatharians are continuous journey beyond diet habit alone. If you feel man should be a fruitorian (Bible, the Book of Genesis) then only those "vegetarians" are there to follow you.

Do these people not know the difference between a carrot and a cow? Did their high school biology fail somewhere along the way? Sheesh.

Tell them they're killing more plants by eating meat, so they should go vegetarian as well.
