Where do baby carrots come from?!

Question: Are they really grown in that shape and size?
Or are they carved out from regular carrots?

Baby carrots are NOT little carrots-they are polished from larger carrots that have flaws that would make them less appealing. The "ugly" larger carrots are culled from the better ones, then they go through a machine that grinds them down to the equal size and shape. I grow many variteties of carrots, and can assure you that there is no type of carrot that grows this way. They are simply "polished down" versions of regular carrots. There are small types of carrot, such as pencil carrots (looks just like a pencil), but there are none that grow as "baby" carrots. Notice the lack of stem end, and the fact that both ends are equally rounded.

mommy carrots

They're exactly what they say they are, young carrots

when a mommy carrot and a daddy carrot fall in love .................
........................ no seriously though, they are just carrots that are "young" in their growth and development. they naturally come that shape and size.

Well, most young carrots are long and thin, instead of short and stubby. I think what we're seeing in the stores must be a particular hybrid that's pulled young.

from the ground

they are what they say they are, they,re baby carrots, cruelly snatched from their mommys breasts at a tender age, scrubbed in a machine, and packed off to God knows where. Never again to feel a mothers love or a daddys pride. Poor little things! If you think that,s sad, what about baby peas?

They are sometimes just little carrots, other times they are big carrots cut up to look like little carrots.

I'm pretty sure they are made from bigger carrots most of the time.

For the longest time, I thought they were just that...baby carrots. However, after my husband stopped laughing at me, he explained that they hare simply regular carrots that have been whittled down to little ones. The "baby carrots" are MUCH more popular and people (like myself) seem to think they taste better and are willing to pay more for them. Marketing geniuses ;)

They are carved from older larger carrots and polished.

They are adult carrots that arn't pretty. The people who make them make them take deformed adult carrots and slice them so they look like mini carrots.

Most baby carrots are a specific strain of carrots bred to mature at that size.

when a mommy carrot and a daddy carrot love each other very much...

they are cut out of normal sized carrots

Not sure, but they're so cute and delicious and good for you! I eat baby carrots every day!
